As one of those that lusted for the original back in the early 80s, but never got it, getting it as an adult and playing it with my son and my friends has been totally worth it.

The weapons cache looks fun! In the box is 1 of each weapon and some extra red ammo. There are no instructions on how this can be used in a game. With only 1 of each weapon, both sides can't have both unless you share. The provided ammo is coloured for one side. Is this pack just meant to be used like a toy? As in do you just set up stuff and play around knocking stuff over but not within the confines of the "game"?

This is probably the most expensive game in my collection right now, because I tend to draw the line at several hundreds of dollars for a game (and I went all in). At the same time, it is also one my most played games (that takes more than 30min to play). Very often my new games get played right away and then wait months (or longer) for a second play as we cycle through. This game got played probably a dozen times in my first few months of owning it. Not knowing how big of an investment it is for you personally or how well it will click for you and people you would play with, it's hard to say. For me, it was totally worth it. It has a better dollar per play ratio than some of my cheaper games. YMMV.

It's good stuff. Move actions. Potions. Cardinal directions. The sky's the limit. Good stuff.

Is it worth it? That's for you to decide, but it's a very fun game with a lot of replayability. Although I have a small game collection, I've reached the point that I basically only play two games: Return to Dark Tower and Firefly: The Game. Both are expensive but both are great and I've played them dozens of times. Well, hundreds of times for Firefly, dozens for this one. But both great.

If it isn't something that breaks the bank, then yes. It does nothing truly special that you can't find elsewhere beside the tower/app and theoretically those could have been done with decks of cards so it isn't groundbreaking gameplay or anything.

That said, it's a spectacle, one of a kind and really really fun to play. I would say it's worth it if the gameplay and toy factor entice you.

There is a reply in this thread from the designer that says the weapon cache weapons can be used whenever their base weapon would be used.
Not sure how that works with some of the tactics card that give you special ammunition and the trebuchet firing two things at once, do both projectiles get the special ammo benefits or only the projectile that uses the special token?

I wish the weapons cache had included some tactics card that allowed them to be used. There is the couple of blank cards so maybe I can make something up.

Perhaps I'm late to the party, but did anyone else notice the place to store batteries instead of leaving them in the tower where they can corrode? Pretty nifty.

Alkaline batteries will eventually leak and corrode components, esp if left in a device that is not used for a long time. Could take years, or you could be lucky, etc. I lost a Nikon SB800 flash and a few kids’ toys to Duracell + Energiser batteries. I now always remove them from expensive hardware that doesn’t see regular use (such as polystone statues with light-up features).

I don't know that's it's "say no to alkaline," more just don't leave them in when not in use.

Just wanted to confirm that the comic is really not good. And additionally, it does not really tie in with the game, other than the fact that cultists invoke an Elder God, it does not feel like an episode from the game. And to make things worse, [o]many of the characters behave in such a way that I really struggle to want to use them as investigators.[/o].

On the plus side, some of the new abilities for the new investigators are interesting and Lost Episode 8 is also fun - they really went all in with the fire. Although, as suspected, the writing isn't as good as in season 1, most of the discovery cards are thematically very uninteresting, and I did not find any fun sub plots hidden in those cards.

I've counted my pieces and what I have matches the component list. I went to set up my first castle and decided to replicate what I saw in the example picture. I wasn't able to do this. From what I can tell, the example picture uses 16 bricks, but we only get 15. Was there a change to the component list after this picture was taken or have i overlooked something and made some rookie error?

Absolutely, but I think others are free to say that TR:V isn't intended to be played solo and any solo version would be an inferior experience.

I'm going to open the box and check it out. Might as well play a game with it open, right?
