Thread: Pandemic Legacy: Season 1:: Rules:: Do Funded Event Cards count towards your hand limit?

by Gillgamesh

I know they do in the regular game, and we just assumed it was the same for Legacy. Today though I noticed on Pg 15 it mentions "0nly Player cards count towards your hand limit" which made me think maybe player (city) cards and event cards were considered separate? When I tried finding a clear answer I found arguments for both options. I'm assuming both city and event cards count as your hand limit but was hoping to get confirmation just in case.

I did see on page 2 it says "Player Cards" in the components section where it shows both city cards and event cards, however on pg15 it mentions Player Cards and Event Cards as two separate headings and the blurb under the Player Cards heading only seems to talk about the city cards.

I also saw that it mentions on pg15 you discard a card OR USE AN EVENT CARD until your limit is 7, however with the introduction of city cards being potential unfunded event cards, I figured there was a chance that these are what that rule is referring to.

Also I realize they may be emphasizing this in the rules because other types of cards are introduced later. If this is the case then please no spoilers. We're only in February in the game right now.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Funded events do count. Anything that can be in a player's hand of cards is a player card.

I fully agree. Any mechanic that slows you down is just a bad idea. Game mechanics should be designed to progress, not stall out.

I will play Covenant again, but it’ll be a sometimes expansion.

I will always play it with the Astromancer and I will advise our group to prioritize building the Monuments. Because anything else is just asking for a bad time.

Do you know if the expansions from the first kickstarter will be available during the new kickstarter? It would be nice if people who got just the base game at retail could get some of the expansions. The new expansion looks fun!

Yes. There's a pledge level for the new expansion, and you'll be able to add the prior expansions in the pledge manager after.

Can confirm there are no ways to remove wasteland tokens once they are out. There are lots of other ways to mitigate the impact. In the base game, movement becomes fairly trivial after just a few items. Forcing players to pay more attention to that was one of the primary design goals of the new expansion. Suddenly things like the Carpet of Kamaria become more valuable (or even something like Azkil's Banner if you're playing with the Spymaster). And, of course, we added several new items that can help: Azkol's Vambraces, Wand of Celerity, Beacon Stone, etc.

I suspect you will be able to fit TTR 1901, yes. (That was your question after all)
Baggies for cards.
The board pieces look like they would fit inside a standard box. That is the only determinant, after you get rid of the TTRE insert.

I figured as much but my group has played two sessions now where I found out after the round that we missed or forgot something so I was going over the instructions with a fine toothed comb and making sure I understood it back to front. At least until more.rules are added 😅.

Thank you so much for the quick response and confirmation. Much appreciated!

Probably a 4-character set.

MSRP for 4-character public domain sets (BoL, C&F, etc.) has always been 39.99.

Marvel 3-character sets it's always been 49.99, cost of licensing I imagine.

If there is absolutely no way to remove them, then I have two questions:
1) …um why the heck not?
2) why is that sentence added in the rulebook about how wasteland tokens can only be removed by “effects that expressly remove them”? That is confusing and gives false hope. The rules should just say, in bold, “wasteland tokens are permanent and can never be removed by any effect”, like the rules say for doom skulls.

Unless you’re leaving the possibility open for them to be removed as a result of a future quest or something… in which case, I hope that feature can be added sooner rather than later.

I sorta expected there was going to be a companion event that could periodically clear a wasteland.

A suggested house rule I might implement (if I can ever convince my friends to play Covenant again, which is a stretch) is to give every player a green acrylic crystal (or any substitute token—even a penny) and call it the “Geode of Gaia” (or whatever!) that can be used for a one-time healing effect to remove a wasteland token in the space you’re in.

This could be a cool effect if it was tied to something. Maybe start with zero and when you reinforce at a completed monument you get one (or when you haggle?).

Review: Betrayal at House on the Hill:: Central College Board Game Review

by Zkjeanneret

DISCLAIMER- I am not a professional and this is for a college class at central college.

Betrayal at House on the Hill is a game that I started playing this year and has already become one of my favorite games. A couple reasons this is one of my favorite game sis the ability to build a different board every time as well as the 50 different haunts that change the game entirely. The reason I like the ability to build the board is because I feel games where you have the same board, more experienced players have a massive advantage. However in this game an experienced player may know the spaces but it all depends on where they are placed. The haunt is one of my favorite parts. To have a game where at one point all players are working together and then it flips in a matter of seconds to one player trying to beat the rest. The vast amount of strategies in this game is phenomenal. I also enjoy the ability for players to "die" and be out of the game. I feel this rewards good and early gameplay as well as punishes poor strategy. Too many games allow bad players to stick around and slow down the game. The only dislike I have for the game is I feel there are no pieces for the haunt. for example different monsters could have characters that replace the haunt players character on the board.

Thread: Return to Dark Tower:: Rules:: Questions and clarifications for Competitive Mode

Posted on the reddit but thought i would get it here too:

Question about Event timing & the word "you": Wife & I are playing competitive mode and question arose. After I dropped a skull, one of the events said: "Spiders move 6 spaces toward you." Who would the You be in this case? It is my belief that my turn ended as soon as that skull went into the tower, so any event after that with You would be the next person's turn. Alternatively, the next player's turn has actually started yet. We were at a loss and threw 1 spider at each of us, but the question remains: who is the You? Would it be the player's turn that is about to take place, or is it the last person to drop a skull?

Question about "spend 4 of the same advantage": I forget which quest line, but they are of the "spend variety - spend 3 gear, spend 2 treasure spend 18 warrior, etc... We understand that the quest to spend them means you turn them over and discard without gaining effects if any. However, one of the test's says to "Spend 4 advantage." I had thought this simply meant to "use" 4 advantages via any means necessary - the treasure to spend 4 advantages of the same type, the regular advantages you get from your player sheet, wild advantages you get from your geo-quadrant... It seems like the wording of this card is just improper, or do you have to turn over a treasure/gear or whatever with those advantages on it? So you could not use your player sheet advantages since you cannot actually "spend" those?

First, this is my favorite game. Number 1. Why? I've never played a game where you ramp up so much and so does the Elder God, but yet the majority of the time it stays so balanced. It is usually a ton of fun to play.
As everyone has said, I think the variable Players (which hasn't been mentioned a lot, but makes a big difference in the game), Scenarios and Elder Gods easily make this a game I can play twice a month and not get bored.
As for your question on the end game. It really is just a rush at the Elder God, that's it. But it's fun, and a little different every time depending on how you developed your character and how close to going insane that development has cost you. I often feel there is way too many people on the board, and there is no way to make the rush, but then someone I sneak out the win. Other times I am overwhelmed, but it is still a fun loss.
I play VERY analytically, as you mentioned that you do. There is a lot of analytical play here, mixed with some chaos, but not the Eldritch/Arkham soul sucking chaos. I think it's well worth it, but that's pretty obvious because it is my #1 game, and I am waiting for Seasons 3 & 4 to deliver.
I hope this was helpful.

Hamlet, Act III, Scene I

To be, or not to be: that is the question:

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer

The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,

Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,

And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;

No more; and by a sleep to say we end

The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks

That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation

Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;

To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;

After about 50 games, few thoughts from me:
1. The original 4 heroes feel woefully inadequate compared to the fun of the 6 expansion heroes, and I hope that the original 4 get a trait refresh to make them more viable. Each expansion character does what the original characters can do to some effect, just more entertaining and with better efficiency usually.
2. Competitive mode needs some TLC. Its fun and you can knock out a game in less than 90 minutes, but it gets a bit repetitive due to the limited number of Test cards. Additionally, would like to see some sort of aggressiveness that heroes could take towards other heroes. A specific refresh of traits made specifically for competitive mode would be great. Actually, an entire expansion themed around competitiveness would be an excellent road to take here and really give the existing game a fresh angle.
3. The regular foes are getting a bit stale at this point. Love the dark horde mini's so unsure exactly how expanding and flushing out the monster roster would work, but i would be ready to drop another few hundred if they released a volume 2 dark horde complete 4 new enemies for each level with minis included.

I suspect they wrote it that way as future planning. I, too, would love to see some event or other ability that lets you strategically remove them.
Your idea about the "Geode of Gaia" sounds like a cool house rule! Anything that increases your enjoyment of the game is a good call. Better to play and enjoy a game, then not play it because you don't like a single element in it.
