An obvious Shakespeare reference. And yet... usually the titles in some way encompass all of the characters contained inside...

Slings... David (and Goliath?)

Arrows... William Tell? Artemis?

Old thread, but I have a relevant question. I have a mint sealed Bruce Lee little dragon foil promo, but I have no idea what it's worth or how to price it. I looked on ebay and facebook marketplace, but couldn't find anything. Does anyone know what it would be worth, or is anyone still interested?

Jacob - yes, I've thought of limiting the race to 5-6 track tiles... I'll certainly try it next time.

Brian - Mario Kart! That's a nice way to explain the house rule/variant 🙂

We played our first two games this weekend. What we did for our kids (7 and 5) was Mario Kart rules: their last vehicle reappears where it blew up, brand new. It still triggered end game, but let them play the last few rounds without missing out. Didn't affect the victor: Game #1 the oldest respawned and my wife won, Game #2 the youngest respawned and the the oldest won.

I had considered this.. but wasn't sure if it will work as intended; i.e. it might end up simply punishing the player that is already last in the race most of the time....

I'm using this extremely well-crafted series of character fixes to re-balance the roster. They're done by someone that has a perfect understanding of the game and as such are very skillfully curated, nothing overdone or heavy-handed. Not ideal to have to patch a physical game of course, but it's that or must bear some extremely over / underpowered characters. The Jekyll rework is a treat for example.

I was a little too fast and flip. There is precisely one way to remove wastelands. Putting it behind spoiler text to avoid, well, spoilers:

[o]When you use Letha's main goal, she lets you remove some wastelands.[/o]

I hear this from a lot of people about legacy games. But I can’t say there are many games in my collection that end up ever getting more plays then the legacy games do. It’s not really fair to say it is only played once for a campaign game that ends up being enjoyed for 10-20 game nights. Look at is as entertainment for all those days. Not much you can do for cheaper.

[o]Letha’s main goal? I’m pretty sure that’s the one we played… is that the one with Letha as a companion where you have to move the siege trees onto wastelands in a particular kingdom? We did that one (and managed to win at the very last minute) but we never were told to remove wasteland tokens…

The wasteland tokens certainly did flip the game from "what heroic action shall I take this turn from the options available" to "how do I plan ahead to ensure I am in a position to be effective next turn", as well as "I'm sure someone will take care of X" to "gosh, I think I'm the only one who's going to get to X, but is it something I should do" etc...

So overall I think they make the movement aspect of the game a far more interesting and relevant puzzle, whereas before at most you could just spend 1 spirit and get "pretty much anywhere you need" within reason. But they do also do this at the cost of the game being less "high fantasy romp" and more "gritty puzzle", so I'm not sure it's the expansion I'd play with all my gaming groups, nor the one I'd put out first even for group I think would enjoy the higher complexity.

And sure, like the previous expansion, it also has an element of "if you ignore the new mechanism, the game WILL bury you, but divert your attention to the new thing, and you'll get bigger rewards out of it" - so unless you do get some of the items (or new heroes) that can workaround the wasteland quite nicely, you'll need to make monuments a priority or have a VERY tough end game.

Overall, it makes the game the solid challenge I think I wanted from Dark Tower - albeit we beat it first time on gritty! Because we had two of the new heroes who both worked around the wasteland quite effectively - and we mostly lose on gritty, so was a surprise to win at all. But subsequent plays have had us beaten again, and I don't see myself really wanting to play without it now (assuming I'm with a group who will enjoy the change of tone, as noted above). Doubt I'll play with guilds ever again, which in a way is a shame.

I’d say between $100 and $150 based on my own sale experiences.

I bought the expansions for the variety they bring in the characters. Some people love expansions for the increased difficulty but for us we would prefer that the game kept the same difficulty but just added some variety. We haven't tried the new expansion stuff but based on posts here I'm not sure it will be for us. I'd love to try out the new buildings but the new wastelands mechanics might not be for us. It's too bad there aren't more ways to adjust the difficulty, especially because it's an app that could provide options for both types of players and there's a gritty mode.

I like where you're going! Robin Hood and Medusa are too close to William Tell and Artemis I think…but what about…CUPID? 👀

I recently heard about the upcoming EPOS and it did remind me of this game, so much so I checked my search history as I'd forgotten the name, shame it look slike it'll never surface.

I checked the Wukong and the J&H reworks and they are really interesting. The Wukong one force the
original monkey to engage a bit more into battle and not rely that much in his wall of clones.

The thing I have with these types of reworks is that if you want to use them, you have to print all the cards
modified from the deck and then sleeved them. I prefer the reworks that only affect the Character Card, only one
card and no need to slevee. You can surely make some impactful changes only modifying the Character Card.

I liked the J&H character card, I will try it next time I use him.

Out of curiosity, in your play sessions, what do you do with the characters that you defined unbalanced or unfun? Don't you play them? Do you use house rules to nerf or buff fighters?

I once tried using a variant when a friend brought his BoL1 to the table. It was the Bryden variant (you can boost attack after defender plays his card) for KA. That small change made a huge difference for the best. And it was only a change to his Character Card, no need to modify any of the 30 cards from his deck.

While I understand the impetus for trying to update certain character designs, there are so many characters to choose from already and far more on the horizon, I don't see the need. Ultimately, as I'll be talking about later today, the goal of this project is to have a satisfying 32 character line-up. We already have a decent chunk more than 32 as is, and I'm confident that there will be plenty of characters released that can fill those slots and don't require tinkering or alteration.

Greetings! I hope some of these answers help.

When a player drops a skull into the tower to end a turn, the turn does not end at the drop, but actually after all events have been completed (if any). Page 22 of the rules clarifies this. While it mostly implies that the player who dropped the skull is responsible for the events, it actually clarifies it as the bottom of the page with: "After you resolve any events, the next player's turn begins." So in your example, the "you" would be the person who dropped the skull.

When it comes to spending advantages in a "losing items" sense, we've understood it to be that if the mechanic of the item with the advantage is a one time conditional use, then you'd remove the item from game play. For instance a treasure with the grey background in the advantage bard is conditional (page 8) and as such, to use those advantages, you'd have to remove the treasure from play. Where as something like a gear or a virtue, the advantage is used only once in the turn, so we'd spend the advantage, but keep the gear or virtue.

It sounds like you played the advantages correctly, at least according to how we understand the rules.

hope that helps!

DJ

There's a reason you never see anyone just selling a big box. It's not practical from a manufacturing or logistics standpoint. You'd have to pay nearly as much for shipping for the big empty box as if you got Max Chrome itself. And the demand isn't there to make the print run make sense.

The Scythe Legendary Box that Stonemaier sells is "A giant, mostly empty box designed to fit all Scythe-related components (expansions, accessories, etc)". Likewise, the Wingspan Nesting Box is a giant empty box that they sell to fit all the Wingspan content.
