To clarify: Works can be out of copyright and in the public domain if they are old enough. So, for example, there are plenty of Zorro stories in the public domain. However, some characters, such as Zorro, are claimed to be owned on the basis of trademark. So you couldn't use Zorro without licensing it from the trademark holder even though you could reprint one of those old stories about him. Now, the effectiveness of those trademark claims might be questionable, but then you're weighing the hassle of litigation vs. merely licensing.

Yeah. I read up on that a little bit with John Carter and the issue of trademarks. ERB Inc or Edgar Rice Boroughs Inc. fights companies tooth and nail who try to use John Carter or anything having to do with John Carter. They sued Dynamite Comics bc it infringed on their trademark or trademarks. They trademarked the name John Carter, Barsoom, Dejha Thoris and other prominent names/places from the story. They eventually settled before going to court (which was interesting bc the case might not hold up).

Either way it’s a tough situation. I’m sure you guys got a lot of fan decks that were good but couldn’t use them bc of this exact issue. But still I’m excited to see what you came up with. 😀

"Starting fulfilment" means starting to ship games from fulfilment centres to backer's homes. This may possibly start in Asia in August. This probably means actual delivery to our doorsteps in October for most of us.

This. :arrowN:

The game is being produced in China. Based on proximity to China, the likely sequential order of shipping to backers from the four fulfillment centers are: Asia, Australia, U.S.A., Europe. If I had to guess the likely timeframe for each fulfillment center to BEGIN shipping, it would be:
- Asia: late August
- Australia: mid-September
- U.S.A.: late September
- Europe: early October

Not sure if they're still in the game, but at one point there were foe cards that described what each type of foe was likely to do if left alone too long. For players wanting a more strategic game, I think these foe cards are going to be a critical game component, since the position of a foe token/mini on the board won't necessarily convey the possible impact on the game.

For example, if a Brigand is on a space with a village, would you necessarily infer that the village is in danger of being destroyed? Compare that to Defenders of the Realm, where the presence of 3 minions in a space visually tells you that an overrun is likely to occur there soon. Knowing "what" could happen, but not "when", allows players to strategize around preventing the "what", while still having the unknown "when" provide stress and excitement. Conversely, if players don't know either the "what" or the "when", they won't have any useful information around which to strategize.

Thread: Unmatched: Battle of Legends, Volume One:: Variants:: Multiple builds with dials

Just thought I'd post the essentially final products. These took about a year of tinkering with, some more than others. The dials were built off the TMNT dials.

Imhotep was my highest concept build since his attacks/def are all set to 0. The exception are a single 6 for attack and defense. The power of the character comes from being able to last long enough to use higher level abilities and power the attacks. It's possible to kill him early with a little luck (esp Medusa), but he becomes a force after the 4th turn.

White Fang is pretty straight forward, he has a space you place on the board that's his den and when on it he gets a bonus. Its a zone of one space so sort of protects from ranged when on it.

Pakal is my favorite since he's one of my favorite historical figures. He adds jungle tokens to slow people down - they take an extra movement to enter. He gets some card based effects when close to them.

Baba Yaga and her Hut. She can cast curses that each have specific conditions to break, nothing too onerous. Some attacks or defenses are better if the opponent is cursed.

Santa Muerte can win the game if she is able to trigger the Holy Death card and inflicts damage on herself that takes her to zero. I had to get some help from a friend in Mexico to treat this character respectfully.

Khutulun and her Riders, tried to get the feeling of the Mongolian princess in this. She gains a bonus on attack if shes on a multizone space, sort of a nod to their mobility as fighters.

Wojtek was a real bear soldier in WW2. Here he attacks like a bear in a sweeping arc. He can hit multiple opponents with one attack, great against groups not so useful against solo fighters - oh well, its called unmatched right?

Sundiata Keita, Lion King of Mali. A bruiser that is card rich. That has its own ups and downs.

Mostly happy with decks in general. Maybe happier to be moving on to just playing other people's decks. If you dig any of them, thanks!

Stage 1 of yog sothoth elder card says :
Yog gates count as gates except for NORMAL summoning"

Then underneath that says "when an enemy is summoned at a normal gate, summon another of the same type at each same-colored gate"

So I guess I dont understand what it means by normal summoning.

I did not play the game in an while and only played two games with Yog Sothoth. But normal summoning refers to monsters or cultist summoned by mythos cards. Thus, if one of them is summoned at i.e the red gate, you summon another at each red yog-gate.

Hope that resolves your problem.

Some are better than others but all are playable (I think). We play tested a bunch with my group. All of them are up on the unmatched card maker site under the ZeroK account. Thank for checking them out!

I believe the wording is in this specific way just to prevent people from looping infinity of "each time they're summoned, they force another to be summoned" in a loop. The way Emanuel described it is correct, they work liked you'd expect essentially.

Any word yet on a release date for these? I know they're coming out this summer, but I can't find anything on Restoration's or Mondo's sites.

Typically the cards will specify "You" if it refers to the sole Investigator activating the card, or "All Investigators" if it intends for the result to be for everyone. With some exceptions.

Yeah... it does seem a little bit of a stretch. Still, we do know we should be expecting an announcement of some kind soon.

I feel like I've been waiting for this to come out since I learned Unmatched existed. It's been in the works for so long it has become comical.

Thread: Fireball Island: The Curse of Vul-Kar:: General:: Help with Missing Components for Used Game

I find myself in a peculiar situation. I purchased this from another BGGer who purchased it in the Kickstarter campaign. The game was opened but never played. Unfortunately, it's missing several components:
- The entire Treasure Trove expansion
- 1 cardboard red treasure token (photo)
- 1 yellow bee marble (photo)
- 5 standard red fireball marbles (photo)
- 7 standard orange ember marbles (same photo)

I have also discovered what I think is a defect: the divot for one snake marble is entirely missing (photo) and the others barely keep the snake marbles in place.

Since this is used, I don't know that I can qualify for replacement parts. I filled out the form specific to Fireball Island on the Restoration Games Contact Us page 7 days ago but didn't hear back from the company. Maybe I should use the generic form?

I guess I'm wondering if I am stuck with an incomplete game. Any help or advice? I appreciate any helpful tips you can offer. Thanks!

Heather's art on Squirrel Girl is amazing. And as someone who has a specific affinity for card names, her deck has some of the best in the game.
