Obviously well-known and recognizable names sell sets, but I really wish they would put out a set with lesser-known legends - kind of a weird way to put it, but there are scores of options, both from real life as well as myth and fantasy. Here are a few of my ideas.Sgt. Amos Humiston (and New York Rifleman): AKA Gettysburg's Unknown Soldier. Look him up, it's a story you can't make up, and any quick blurb I give right here would be an insult.
Curdie (and The Princess): From George MacDonald's "The Princess and the Goblin", which is credited by the likes of Tolkien, Lewis, and more for inspiring them to write fantasy. If they took it in the same direction as Alice, it would be amazing.
Zheng Yi Sao: Chinese woman who went from a prostitute to running a literal Pirate Confederation of, at times, around 80,000 pirates. She's been adapted into a variety of media (such as Pirates of the Carribean movies), but the real story is much more interesting.
Who would you all like to see get there time in the spotlight?

So speaking for myself, I'm not really going to buy sets with characters I never heard of. Characters that are interesting to me are exciting and being excited about the game I play is what I want.I love what they've done so far with UnMatched, the mixing of different genres and the design of stylistically and mechanically different decks. Invisible Man, King Arthur, Bruce Lee, and the Raptors, are all very different mechanically; have decks that suit their theme well, and thus, feel distinct and unique. The fact that they come from wildly different genres makes it fun to have a game where they battle; and helps the asymmetric elements and themes feel genuine and interesting.
That being said, I don't see why there has to be a kind of enforced exoticism where u pick characters that most of us haven't heard of. There are plenty of chars that would blend really well into UnMatched while being distinct, different, and yet well known. I'd love an 80s set w/ Terminator vs Alien Vs Predator vs Ripley (in battle suit of course). (Those are each IPs so that might be a pipe dream.)
I can certainly understand why u might say that u don't want over a dozen superheroes (the market is saturated w/ them and they might be a little overplayed/stale); but 3 or 4? Definitely! We haven't had any superheroes yet. Having Medusa or Alice battle Ghost Rider would be rad.
The other thing I want to know is how do u think these chars will differ significantly mechanically from what is out there already or will be. Realistically, your soldier guy would be a char with a gun. Well...we have ranged chars like Robin Hood, and even gun toting ones like Ingen. So how will he distinguish himself? Invisible Man and Alice and the Raptors are all vastly different, that's what makes them fun.
Anyways that's just my opinion and what I would like to see.

Thread: Downforce:: Variants:: Powercards are available for everyone throughout the game
by PeeJay123
I am not here to talk about the bidding auction step per se because there are many people attempting to deal with that.I am here to talk about the powercards that are paired randomly with the cars during the auction.
My suggestion is this:
- Randomly select 3 powercards at the beginning of the game and put them next to the board.
- Every player can use any one of these power at anytime during the game
- They can also use the same power multiple times during the game
BUT and this is a big but....
They need to deduct 1 million bucks (maybe 2 million?), from their final total tally, every time they trigger a power.
You might wonder, how may we track how many times a player use the power? Use some random tokens you have. The players take a token every time they use a power.
My rationale:
The issue is that the the powers on the powercards are imbalanced. The second thing is that as new players, there is no way you would know "is this powercard good for me?" during the auction phase.
Therefore, the way I see it, when players bid for cars, the only factor to consider is "which color is the most common on my speed cards and thats the car I want".
Because, even if you know which is the best powercard, you wont bid for that car if your speed cards for that car is "weak".
So the above variant balanced the game by making the powercards available to everyone if they are willing to pay for it.

Such a vague and tiny piece of information, and enough so that I'm good for another month or two without news. Thank you very much. 😃 I'm really looking forward to the whole set.

I like this, nice work man! :geek_star::geek_star::geek_star:A D6 placed on your driver plaque and turned up for every driver power use would be plenty for most, cause what psycho would burn more than 🔥$6 Million🔥 in a single race!

It’s been revealed that Yennenga (warrior princess of Burkina Faso) will be a hero in the upcoming Battle of Legends 2 set, so they’re definitely starting to include characters who aren’t products of American or European culture or modern pop culture.I’m all for heroes I haven’t heard of yet! It’s fun to read up on them and learn more about the heroes, values and stories/history of other cultures I may not yet be familiar with (or even those I am familiar with but don’t know extensively!). And as you say, there are some great ones out there.

We aren't going to pick someone obscure just because they're obscure. But there are good number of obscure figures of legend and history that have really cool stories and will make really cool heroes. We like to include them in the mix because it makes for a more interesting diverse set (and also lets us have more cultural and ethnic diversity as well). A whole set of lesser known figures just wouldn't make sense because you first have to get someone to pick up a box before they'll buy it. But I'm very much down with someone picking up a box because it has a hero they dig and seeing another hero they haven't who has some amazing art and a neat card effect.

That's the cool thing about the whole Unmatched concept - it really lends itself to fostering learning and discovering new cultures. I was excited to hear about Yennenga, precisely because I had never heard about her before!Mechanically, there's a million ways to go - Sgt Humiston could be crazy powerful....but needs to spend an action after each ranged attack to reload, due to his and his allies use of 19th century muskets. He could also be stronger when near his allies, because of volley fire.
A samurai character would be neat, too - allies could be much like Alice in they "change form", in regard to the wide variety of weapons used: naginata, yumi, and of course katana. The main character would probably stick to one weapon, but allies could be 6 six dice, each face being a different weapon.
With at least a modest dedication to exploring new ideas, Unmatched could be a great educational opportunity - whilst killing each, other of course.

I wasn't suggesting obscurity for the point of obscurity, but for the purpose of giving someone the opportunity to take a risk and expand their bailiwick.
With Unmatched's established place, though, I think a risk could be possible. Plus, it would be cool for a Navajo kid to see The Hero Twins (I don't know how to type all the accents so I'm not going to screw it up by trying) and a Jewish kid to see Judas Maccabeus, as part of an entire set. While most people look on with "Huh?" on their faces, they could go "Yeah, I get that. I know what's up."

Honestly, I am less likely to pick up a box just because "it's a hero I dig" than I am to pick up a box because there's a cool mini, amazing art, and most importantly - unique card interactions.

I had a thread on here about the character "Christian" from Pilgrim's Progress. It had some neat discussion on passive characters and how would they fit and such. I still think he would be a neat challenge!

Yeah this was weird. I initially assumed that when a hero enters a space containing a monster that they would have to at least stop. Then again... After watching the cartoons for years, thematically the gang would have either disguised themselves horribly and fooled the monster into leavig them alone, or they would have just ran like hell right past the monster (remember all the hallway scenes where the characters are running across the screen a dozen times??)
