Thread: Betrayal Legacy:: Rules:: Spoiler Haunts/Consulting the...

We finished the campaign in 8 days so this is just in case someone else has this question as we just made a ruling and moved on. It would be nice to know what was intended though.

If a haunt roll signifies a haunt should start, [o]and then the journal has you consult the Helm, and the result on the Helm would kill a player, do they die or not?

The rules don't permit you to die till there is a haunt, and the first turn of the haunt has not been taken, but the haunt has been started by the die roll.
[/o]
So I guess in summary, does a haunt begin at the die roll that confirms it, or on the first turn of the haunt?

Giving this a quick perusal... How many times would you have to play before triggering Haunt 101? Is it even possible?

I mean, I didn't read it very closely because confusion is a core mechanic of this game, but still. It looks virtually untriggerable

We credibly had a discussion around the probability of it all and concluded that it was astronomically small to get that haunt though the printed mechanism. But nobody did the actual math.

Ahem. The Haunt sheet explains how you can skip missions you've already played. Furthermore, the STOP sheet at the end of the "Secrets of Survival " book states "Whenever you start a new game, if all of your explorers have encountered the four haunts listed above, you may collectively decide to encounter the Witch,"

So the odds of reaching the final Haunt are far from astronomical, and I intend toe reach it:)!

As others have said it's an action so up to four times per turn. Except, you can only have one marker per city, so it's hard to do it more than twice in practice.

The Generalist could potentially do it 3 times in a turn

All attacks are considered trait rolls. Unarmed attacks are *Might* rolls, and attacks associated with weapons and special powers have the trait associated with them in the text.

A trait roll, in general, is any time you are rolling dice equal to one of your traits, regardless of what you are doing.

you cannot target someone in or beyond a tile with fog.

a person in a tile with fog cannot target anyone outside the tile.

A Talking point. If a bee rests on you, you get stung. If a snake rests on you, you get bit. But according to the rules, if a burning ember or fireball lands to rest on your foot, nothing happens. Hmmm? It feels like your movement could be stunted in your mext turn like with a bee

That would make a good houserule. I haven't thought about one. just recognizing your comment.

For clarification from the expansion rules

Crouching Tiger Hidden Bees expansion rules

Bee Stings!
You may only have one bee sting token at a time. If you start your turn with a bee sting token, discard it when you play your action card. Halve the movement on that card. Any other effects that reduce your movement happen after this movement is halved.

The Last Adventurer Rules

Poisoned!
You may only have one poison token at a time.
If you start a turn with a poison token, return it. Draw and play the top action card instead of playing one from your hand. Do not draw a card at the end of your turn if you have two.

And I just finished straightening up my purple character. She's looking good now.

I used plyers to only dip her legs in the hot water, then pressed on the base while dunking her in the ice water.

That's the type of situation that starts fights amongst players. I say that without joking this time.

The game can play more cutthroat than it appears (kinda like Survive!).

So it would be good to go over houserules ahead of time imho

And print out Justin's responses like this.

imho Justin's going to have to post an FAQ I'd say in early December after everyone has their games. There's a lot more situational questions being asked here than I would have thought. It's a lot of interpreting and unexpected rule lawyering imho And most legitimate. As in not a problem with players not RTFRB (Reading the Frickin Rule Book) imho :sauron:

And thanks Justin for replying to the FAQ's. Other game designers do that on BGG when the game is new but after a while you don't hear from them.

At the end of the Monster turn, a Hero can be made into a Traitor, but the Monster turn comes at the end of the turn of the player to the left of the Haunt Revealer.

My question is this: When does the new Traitor take his next turn? Does he stay in the normal turn rotation, in which case the Monster turn could well be disconnected from the Traitor turn, occurring at a different time? Or does the new Traitor have to miss his next turn, acting only at the end of the next turn of the to the left of the HR player, thus mating the Traitor turn and Monster turn?

I noticed that the campaign haunts have freeplay texts in it. So, does that mean that all 50 haunts, at the end of the Campaign, are playable in freeplay mode? I find that a bit odd, because [o]in the third haunt of my campaign, we got the doll one, that required the Salon, and at the end of that, we had to destroy the Salon tile and replace it with the Collapsed Room (the traitor lost, in that one), while burying the Bloody Room tile. How can that haunt be playable in freeplay mode without the Salon? And what if a haunt requires the Bloody Room, in our case?[/o]

Just played the prologue and first chapter and like the previous poster said, it’s definitely less campy and more straight horror than the first one. Some of the flavor text can be pretty creepy and would probably depend on the reader as to how unsettling it was.

Example flavor text from chapter 1 card:
[o]Scrawled on the bottom of the card: The DAY BefoRe PA hit WiLLiAm with A hammer, he toLD me ABOUt the DeviL man AnD wheRe he is BuRieD. [/o]

Even as an adult I find that quite disturbing. But your kids might be better at separating that imagery from their real life. If you are on the fence you could check out the non legacy version of the game, which has it’s quirks, but may be more suited to your kids level of comfort.

Speaking of zombies my kids had no trouble and thouroughly enjoyed World War Z but 15 min in to Shaun of the Dead we had to stop it because they were too freaked out. Go figure.

I had this same problem. The rulebook doesn't really do a good job of actually telling you how to begin play.

We changed it for this version. An attack roll is a trait roll. It was an exception that we noticed was hard for playtesters to remember.

My current reply

That would make a good houserule.

For clarification from the expansion rules

Crouching Tiger Hidden Bees expansion rules

Pouring the Bees!
Put all 10 bee marbles into the beehive, then pour them through Vul-Kar. At the end of the turn, any player who is touching a bee takes a bee sting token (unless they have one already). Then clear the board of bee marbles.

Bee Stings!
You may only have one bee sting token at a time. If you start your turn with a bee sting token, discard it when you play your action card. Halve the movement on that card. Any other effects that reduce your movement happen after this movement is halved.

The Last Adventurer Expasion Rules (curiously out of order as the rules list “Poisoned!” prior to “Flicking Snakes”!?)

Flicking Snakes
Flick snakes like ember marbles. Players who have a snake touching their figure at the end of a turn take a poison token (if they don’t already have one). Then reset the snakes as normal.

Poisoned!
You may only have one poison token at a time.
If you start a turn with a poison token, return it. Draw and play the top action card instead of playing one from your hand. Do not draw a card at the end of your turn if you have two.

So following card penalty logic a burn token may be that you cannot perform the action shown after the full movement value on the card(?)

The custom burn tokens could be the expansion’s triangle shape tokens. the color break could be a red tringle token with a fireball that is yellow-orange (color matching the flame symbol bullets in the Base Game Rules sheet under “Getting Knocked Over”) using the fireball symbol used for “Cataclysm!”

For reference here’s the rules for actually getting the miniature knocked over as opposed to a Fireball or Ember Marble touching it.

Getting Knocked Over
Your figure is knocked over when any part of your figure other than the base is touching the island, or if your figure is off the island. When your figure gets knocked over, you lose a treasure of your choice.

• If another player knocked you over, they steal the treasure. Draw a souvenir card!

• If you knocked yourself over, put the treasure into the Maw. Draw a souvenir card.

Some spaces are safer than others. If you fall over from vibrations on the island, that counts as getting knocked over.

Table Bumps
If you (or your cat) bump the island, ignore the effects and put everything back where it was.

He already responded elsewhere on BGG that only one character needs to get to the copter in order to score your snapshots.
