I'm curious if anyone DID NOT give the laborer character the Architect upgrade and how that worked out for them?

I've been discussing with my team the possible benefits of diversifying over specializing and I am curious if anyone else went this route. A quick search of Architect shows me people almost exclusively choosing to specialize.

If you edit the title of your original first post it will rename the thread.

I would offer the merits of specialization. Diversification sounds great in theory, but you only get 4 actions a turn, and you might really need them. Best to set aside one for a guy you know you'll need.

We actually chose not to - it's worked out a couple of times in our favor and it's worked a couple of times against us, so it's kind of a wash. We put ours on the Administrator. Putting Foundations on some cards has really helped out.

We also put Courier on our Farmer instead of our Radio Operator, which seems to be the popular choice.

Spoilers for a new game mechanic

Probably somewhere in April and beyond, depending on how you do?
[o]
Now that we've got radio towers that let us trade cards easier, I'm actually pretty happy with our choices, as it's not impossible for us to build two supply centers in a turn, which is pretty huge.

We went specialisation. I would guess most people did. It seems an obvious move. One game in particular was stupid, when the Laborer/Architect, picked up

[o]The Paris(?) companion, meaning they could build Supply Centers with only two cards.[/o]

Specialization is the obvious move only in that it's what I think a lot of gamers are kind of geared towards. D&D and most video games push the player towards that

This game seems different. I'd say that there are a lot of ways the game is designed so that you can choose to either specialize OR diversify, adapting strategies accordingly.

What they all said!

It's also worth bookmarking the FAQ and reading the bits of it which aren't spoiler-protected.

Also, once you do start playing the Legacy season, do everything you're told you must do, and only things you're told you may do. Read the rules extremely literally and do exactly as they say.

Whenever you see a number or letter in a little white circle, open that dossier flap. Then look at both the backside of the flap you've just removed and the space it vacated. Numbers in little white circles do not refer to the packages; only open those if told to "open package N".

When you reach a "STOP" card in the legacy deck, read the rest of the top face of that card and make sure you understand when you're supposed to continue.

And enjoy yourselves, obviously. (-8

That actually only became a spoiler issue once you mentioned they were a spoiler.

I put them behind a spoiler tag, and was careful not to flag which of the preceding replies I was talking about.

I did not know there were ________ in the game until you mentioned them.

Which, again, is why I did it behind a spoiler tag.

You, on the other hand, have mentioned them in plain sight. It would be great if you could edit your response, too. /-8

i would recommend playing some practice games with the current status of the board you have without touching the legacy deck.
what we did we played prologue game some times with only 18 supply cubes (half), no funding cards, and tried different characters combinations. it allowed us to understand better how we are going to lose and why. in this nightmarish version of the prologue we often had a plague cube in one of the cities before the first turn, and had epidemic on the first or second turn quite often - of course we usually lost in that case, but it allowed us to practice : )
my feeling now game could be very random, so you kinda need to build up some skill in order to mitigate that. also, if you lost three games in a row you should have a nice funding level - don't underestimate that.

I just got Pandemic Legacy (S1) for my birthday and really looking forward to play it. But I have to wait for a couple of weeks until my friends can join me.

So I was wondering if there is any preparation that I can do or that is useful to do, before we start our first session. I haven't even opened the box yet, scared of being spoiled ^^

A litte context: I do have played regular Pandemic multiple times with my wife and other people and have 75% win-rate (played mostly with 4 epidemics).

So is there anything I can/need to do before we start... or is it mostly spoiler-territory and best to avoid looking into the box before starting?

This board's layout is a little different than the normal Pandemic game. Feel free to use it to play the base game, if you have them already. You don't need to worry about spoiling. Just don't open the Legacy deck (it's the one that has the STOP card on it, and it's wrapped) or any of the dossiers.

Just a quick thing: You get to add things called "Funded Events" that are the same as the Events from the normal game. If you play a practice round, you get to pick five of them and mix them into the deck. When you start the game, however, you play with 4. You may want to practice with 4 of the Event cards to get the feel of it.

May seems too early for this situation. I'm pretty sure there's more things to find still.
