Man, I do NOT remember that. Three! I wish I could go back and look at that card, but I don't have it.

So, it was a new card revealed at game end that just said you could add any of the medical or military equipment stickers from the other cards as a game end bonus? I'm blown away that I could forget that.

Actually, it sounds like you have the card there? Can you tell me the dossier number from the back? Thanks if you have it!

Yeap. You can add 3 equipment stickers as one of the 2 game end upgrades.
The rule change is under Dossier Door W.

Wow, Thank you! We have that in our rule book, but I'd somehow not internalized it during that game and had no idea it was there. I appreciate it!

I would say no. You [o]lose points due to the assistance that is provided by [/o] box 8. That doesn't happen, so no need.

I feel like they needed to make that a bit clearer, the objective card just say you need to complete two objectives. And the cure three disease objectives just says this needs to be one of the objectives every month. Not that you need to *complete* this every month, unless I'm mistaken.

We played our 9th game on November 2nd.

Start of the Game

Mission Brief: Find the missing Virologist.

[Received] Virologist Search Track Card
[Received] Virologist Search Result Card
[Received] Action - Search
[Received] Rule Change - Set up search tracks
[Received] Rule Change - Search
[Received] Search & Target token
[Received] Epidemic Step 4 Sticker

Objective 1 (Mandatory): Discover cures to the 3 normal diseases.
Objective 2: Eradicate at least 1 disease.
Objective 3: Have a military base in each of the six major regions.
Objective 4: Quarantine 7 Faded cities
Objective 5: Find the Virologist in a Faded city containing a research station.

Players & Characters
Yong: Kira (Dispatcher)
Min: Shu Nay Nay (Quarantine Specialist)
Nam: South Virus (Researcher)

Starting Structures
2 Research Stations: Atlanta and São Paulo
2 Military Bases: Delhi and Los Angeles

Funded Event Cards (0 cards)
Since we won the last game, we had no funded event cards this game!

Major Events

Cured: Nam Virus (Blue)
Eradicated: Nam Virus (Blue)
[Objective 1 Cleared] Eradicate at least 1 disease.
Cured: Min Virus (Black)
1st Epidemic: Johannesburg (Yellow)

Using the rival relationship between Shu Nay Nay(Quarantine Specialist) and Kira(Dispatcher), we were able to find the Virologist very easily.

First, Kira discarded a card by building a research station on a faded city, which Shu Nay Nay picked up by using their relationship ability.

Then, Shu Nay Nay used that card to search in that research station to advance 3 spaces on the search track. (+1 for quarantine marker on city)

[Objective 2 Cleared] Find the Virologist.
2nd Epidemic: Mexico City (Yellow)
Cured: Princess Disease (Yellow)
[Objective 3 Cleared] Discover cures to the 3 normal diseases.
WIN

End of the Game

Result: WIN!
Win Bonus: At the start of the game of June, add both 1 starting military base and 1 military base to any one city on the board.
This was probably our shortest game ever. Our team was really in sync this game, using our character actions and other resources very effectively and wisely to our advantage. Another easy victory for Team 1103.

Diseases
3 Cured: Princess Disease (Yellow), Nam Virus (Blue), Min Virus (Black)
1 Eradicated: Nam Virus (Blue)
1 COdA-403

Faded Cities

It is clear from the rules.

If an objective is marked as mandatory, it must be completed in order to
win. You do not need to decide which other objectives you are trying to
accomplish at the beginning of any game; you may wait to see how the
game unfolds.

It's clear from the rules but adding some graphic design to make the objective show clearly as "more important" than the others could have helped.

This argument of being offended by the mechanic is really tired.

The Legacy system is something new in the boardgaming world, and frankly it is late to the party. MMOs having been doing this for a long time and pen and paper RPGs for even longer (my DM forcing me to rip up my player sheet upon his demise is one of my most vivid, formative and lasting gaming memories).

The changing and evolving game state and the emotional heft of physically making those changes is precisely the point of the system.

The primary thrill of the Legacy system is the journey through the campaign. While you still have a playable game at the end of it, the play-ability of the game past the 18 or so plays you get is not really the point.

All of the people bashing this game as a "money grab" (though I'm not sure that means what people think that means) should take a look at their collection and see how many of their individuals games get 18 plays...

If I have four people play through the campaign, that is approximately 4 hours of enjoyment time per session times 18 sessions= 72 game hours. Game is $50 on Amazon, so this comes to about .69 cents per player, per game. Hardly exorbitant. How much do you spend going to the movies? or a 6 hour long video game? How much per play have you spent on those $60 games that get played twice?

I suspect the push back is coming from the collector set--where defacing components challenges their very foundation of their reason for being in the hobby. I have some of those tendencies, but I love that this game is challenging me to treat this object for what it is--a toy with the capacity for some serious surprises, thrills, storytelling and bonding with my friends and families.

So with that in mind, I rip away and give a barbaric YAWP, every time!

Once again, a GOOD game doesn't need this money grab of destroying game components.

I played Conflict of Heroes: Eastern Front – Solo Expansion 23 times over the last 32 days in 1 to 3 hour sessions ... and with Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear – Firefight Generator...

I can create complete new solitair scenarios endlessly.

Now that's something great and that's because the new solo AI system is awesome. Thanks to Eickert/Butterfield you know the last one is the Jedi Knight of solo gaming...

I don't need to put stickers on my maps or destroy the troops I play with to organise campaigns or solo scenarios endlessly and have fun.

Defending a Legacy system is the ultimate of boredom. You better throw 65 Euro in the toilet because after 10 plays your hard earned money is spend and you need a new 65 Euro pack.

CRAZYNESS in board game land.

Oh wow.. we've been playing with her up to September and did not notice that at all. I just checked the character card and indeed it says "once per turn"
The guy who played the Quarantine Specialist didn't say anything so we just guessed it was an unlimited power.. lol

Yeah, basically we had Lost and Won January and were sitting on 4 fundings starting February. I see the briefing and I'm like "we need them Quarantines baby!" so played the Quarantine Specialist. The game was super easy and we felt the power was clearly miles ahead of all the other guys, which is what made us take another look...

Let's just say we used the rules on what to do when you make a game too easy for yourself and we dropped our funding 2 extra for March... been on 0 funding ever since, though we lost the first June game so we'll be back up to 2 funding...

We played our 10th game on November 4th.

Start of the Game

Mission Brief: Find the Immunologist. Destroy the “Eradicate at least 1 disease” objective.

[Received] New Objective - Find the immunologist in a city that is rioting.
[Received] Immunologist Search Track Card
[Received] Immunologist Search Result Card
[Received] Rule Change - Self Sacrifice
[Received] Action - Self Sacrifice

Objective 1 (Mandatory): Discover cures to the 3 normal diseases.
Objective 2: Eradicate at least 1 disease.
Objective 3: Have a military base in each of the six major regions.
Objective 4: Quarantine 7 Faded cities
Objective 5: Find the immunologist in a city that is rioting.
Used Win Bonus earned in July to add one starting military base in Manilla and one military base in Paris

Rule Mistake: We were only supposed to add one starting military base and one military base on any “ONE” city. Whoops.

Players & Characters
Yong: Kira (Dispatcher)
Min: Shu Nay Nay (Quarantine Specialist)
Nam: South Virus (Researcher)

Starting Structures
2 Research Stations: Atlanta and São Paulo
4 Military Bases: Delhi, Los Angeles, Manilla and Paris

Funded Event Cards (0 cards)
Since we won the last game, we had no funded event cards this game!

Major Events

Unfortunately(?), we did not have any rioting faded cities, so we had no choice but to give up the objective of finding the immunologist.

1st Epidemic: Chicago (Blue)
Cured: Min Virus (Black)
Cured: Princess Disease (Yellow)
Cured: Nam Virus (Blue)
[Objective 1 Cleared] Discover cures to the 3 normal diseases.
2nd Epidemic: Hong Kong (Faded City)
Outbreak 1: Lima

Since we started the game with 4 military bases, all we needed to do was to build 2 more military bases. So, we built military bases in Buenos Aires and Cairo and we were done with our 2nd objective.

[Objective 2 Cleared] Have a military base in each of the six major regions.

We were now approaching the end of the game and all we needed to do was to add a few more quarantine markers on the faded cities to win. This was not a very difficult task because we had Shu Nay Nay, the Quarantine Specialist.

Right before Shu Nay Nay’s turn, it was Kira, the Dispatcher’s turn. He had used up 3 actions to treat a few disease cubes and had one more action to spare.

So, with that one action, he moved Shu Nay Nay to Mumbai, a city with a few black disease cubes, so that she could treat the city on her turn.

Unfortunately, right after Kira’s turn, we drew an Epidemic card and then an infection card on Mumbai, causing an outbreak on Mumbai and giving Shu Nay Nay her first scar.
We added the “Hobbled” scar since we didn’t have any fallen cities on the board and that seemed to be the one that would affect her the least.

3rd Epidemic: Mumbai
[Objective 3 Cleared] Quarantine 7 Faded cities.
WIN

End of the Game

Result: WIN!
Received: Game End Upgrades
Received: Medical/Military Equipment
Received: New Character - Virologist
Win Bonus: Advance 1 search party 2 spaces or advance all search parties 1 space
Yet another easy win for Team 1103. The rule mistake in the beginning with the Win Bonus probably helped a bit, but overall the game was very manageable.

This game was the first game any of us got a scar. When we drew that Epidemic card, Min, our friend who was playing Shu Nay Nay was sad but my other friend and I were laughing hysterically.

It was funny since it could have been prevented if Kira did not use his action to move her to Mumbai.. haha oh well.. at least it wasn’t me

Spouting off on the internet telling people what they should and shouldn't enjoy is the ultimate of boredom.

Maybe you should try "BGG: The Legacy Game", rather than re-playing the same tired solo game of listening to yourself talk over and over again. We get it, you don't like the things we like.

The craziness in boardgame land is that you think the thousands of people who massively enjoy this experience have opinions that are somehow less valid than your own.

And thus the Angel Ben-Ha-Meen wasted away, staring and lovingly sniffing at his meals each night, never tasting lest their impeccable beauty and scent be marred by his ravenous nature.

Dude. For everyone out there who's still on this bs. You're not destroying components in a Legacy game; you're creating them. The whole concept is players are participating in the design process by making their own distinctions to the factions, board, various decks, etc. You're not losing anything, you're creating something uniquely yours. If you're making pottery and you want to never fire your pot, keep it just moist enough everyday to never be usable, and keep all the bits removed in the creation of that pot stored lovingly in a glass curio cabinet, so be it. If you've allergic to clay, cool. Just don't go acting like the people who've actually fired their clay and are enjoying their cups and bowls are the ones missing a runner on their rocking chairs.

It's not visible enough across a table. It might have been better to have even a different colored background or something.

Hell, I can't really identify objectives at a glance from across the table, so when we do finish one I have to extend my hand and pick each card individually to find the one we actually finished.

Those are just minor Qualify of Life issues for a pretty stellar game, but just because something is clearly the best game of the year (for me) doesn't mean there isn't room for some improvements. In general I think most of current Pandemic's graphic design is very efficient at transferring information, I just think maybe something could be done to improve the visuals of objectives.

Design is about making things idiot proof. Or as much as possible, anyway.

Similarly I would like the "you may now open package X" notices to be more noticeable. I've noticed a lot of questions of the type "what the hell is that component they are talking about?" because people miss that they should open a package.

They should probably be their own door type (letters are updates to the rulebook, numbers are stickers). They should still be on the dossiers instead of the back of the door so that you can review easily at a glance, but I would make put them all in the same rough region of the dossier and mark that area clearly somehow as the "open packages" area.

Agreed. I think that's one of the reasons the artificial imposition of component destruction interrupts the game so much for me. It feels like they decided to go with a single-use version without really thinking about other possibilities, i.e. assuming that since Risk Legacy was single use so P:L must be, too.

It's difficult to swallow the double-standard here. When people suggest playing the game as-designed is the optimal way to play the game, you take great offense because you believe people should be able to play the game however they want (which, aside from the indignation, is a premise I agree with).

But when it comes to the way *you* want to play the game, all other methods are so artificial and sub-optimal that the designers weren't even thinking when they created the game.
Are you choosing to take her use of the word 'thinking' out of context on purpose?

She did not say the designers were not thinking.

She said "without really thinking about other possibilities". Her use implies, to me, that she believes they were only thinking of one possibility: a close duplication of Risk: Legacy.

I do not believe she is correct, but I do not believe she is trying to insult the gods of Pandemic: Legacy that must be obeyed or the mountains shall shake.

No spoilers here, as this upgrade is on the open sticker sheet not hidden.

My question is in regards to the flexible character upgrade. Discard a card of a color to take a different card of the same color from the discard pile.

Would this include being able to take a city card that has an unfunded event on it? Thus getting to use that unfunded card twice in a game.

Forgive me if this is posted somewhere else, trying to avoid spoilers makes it hard to look up info.

The answer is: it is not difficult to do. It will just slow playtime a bit. However, having finished the game after a marathon session, I will be playing the next version with a notebook.

Here's how.

Get a notebook. Most changes that occur can be written down and checked in between games. If you sleeve the cards, you can put little pieces of paper in there as notes, instead of putting stickers on them.

Change "Destroy" to "put back in the box." and you're good to go.

It feels pertinent to refer back to this every few pages, in case someone stumbles in here actually looking for an answer to the question posed in the Thread title.
