Thread: Pandemic Legacy:: Rules:: [July Spoilers] Rules and Objectives question

by ecm85

[o]
For July, the objective card states

Find the Virologist in a Faded city containing a research station
If you succeed, destroy this objective at the end of the game

And 'The Virologist' card states:
Scratch off this card when you find the Virologist.

During July Round 1, if we find the virologist but lose the game:

1: Do we scratch off 'The Virologist' card?
2: For the Virologist objective card, do we:
a)Rip up the Virologist objective card, and don't count it as an objective in July Round 2?
b)Leave the Virologist objective card and count it as a free objective in July Round 2?
c)Leave the Virologist objective card and have to re-find the Virologist in July Round 2?

tldr - Does finding the Virologist but losing the game count as finding him or not finding him, and how is that implemented?

We ruled it that we as we did find him so did scratch off the card and tore up the objective so we didn't have it at all during July Round 2.

Thread: Pandemic Legacy:: Strategy:: Game breaking combo (mild Spoilers)

I started Pandemic Legacy with two of my friends yesterday.
We lost our first game due to an epidmic drawn on the very first turn, but won the second game easily.
Since then we won every game up to the end of april thanks to an awesome combo.

We played with Medic, scientist and quarantine specialist as soon as it became available.
The scientist had his handsize raised by one and became a colleague of the quarantine specialist.
The quarantine specialist also recieved pilot as an upgrade.
Now she can fly to a city without discarding it and give the card directly to the scientist.
All three remaining deseases have the level 2 upgrade for having been eradicated and can be cured without an Action. That way, we are able to heal them pretty quickly.
The quarantine specialist and the Medic can also keep everything else under control pretty easily.
We did not have any major outbreaks. Hong Kong is at level 3 and several other cities at level 1.
I dont think we made any major mistakes and yes, we only had two upgrades after every game. But the pilot/colleague combo is very very strong in my option.
What doch you think of That?

You may only trade one item per turn.

You may not use an item and then trade that same item.

You may only give items, not take items on your turn. So there is no point also ask if you can take and use items on your turn (you cannot take items on your turn).

Rules seem clear.

I could read this another way because its says "once per turn" and not "has an action" like other character card, I can see this be a free action once per turn?

I am in a 3 player legacy tour as well. It seems we have it easier. We have the quarantine specialist, the cure with 4 cards, and the researcher (hand out cards easier). This is a very good combo as well... we won 5 times, lost april once. Next up: June!

uhh.. yeah, I get mad when my highly rated games get popular :what:
Not mad, but by comparison to my other 9s, Pandemic doesn't hold up. Legacy is amazing but only lasts for 15 or so games. Pandemic is at most a 7...maybe a 6 even. Legacy isn't a 10, but close. So...8?

yea its just another rules reminder card for each player. i believe the quarantine is already printed on there. if you get more actions in the future you can stick them on the card.

Just checking, since we borked that up on our first game with the Quarantine Specialist in February.

Did you play that the Quarantine Specialist's ability to place Quarantine markers in other cities is only once per turn?

Hi guys,

Absolutely loving this game so far. So when we triggered the Faded box opening in April by resolving the second pandemic card, we actually managed to beat the month by eradicating a disease and having 6 military bases up without adding a single cube of the c0da disease thanks to some timely events and quarantine markers.

According to how we were reading the instructions, that means we actually didn't add any faded to the game at that point because existing Coda cubes already on the board when you triggered the April condition dont count, it's any subsequent additions right?

So almost surely we will have our city zero showing up in May during setup right? We just wanted to ensure we played April right, it was surprisingly a total breeze, we eradicated yellow and had six military bases up right when the third epidemic card hit.

Note that you still must cure the 3 non codA diseases, that is a mandatory objective.

It is the first time you would add a CodA cube after the Faded mutation appears, so in this case, it would potentially be in May setup, if any appear (note I haven't played May yet, so don't know if anything might happen to change this).

Yeah it happened for us too. Don't worry, you'll have plenty of Faded cities by the end of May...

In our case we were lucky because there were only two C0dA cities in the actively infectious cities and they were both on 3 cubes so we had Quarantined them earlier, so we got to finish while the Quarantine specialist took care of not letting a Faded figure go on the board.

Wait what? But the objective card said we only had to complete two objectives. Oooooh I see, I think we messed that up big time. YOu need to complete 2 of the three with the cure all 3 being a mandatory one.

Wow that wasn't clear to me at all. Well, extra pandemic legacy time.

Exactly, it's 2 out of 3 but Cure 3 diseases must always be one of them. Basically Eradication is easier for non-military teams while military bases are easier if you choose to go down the military route.

3. When you crack open that Legacy card deck and start reading the cards, don't JUST stop when you reach the first STOP card. Be sure to also read and follow the fine print. This is the really embarrassing one, where someone took the STOP instruction a bit to literally....

We screwed this one up as well. As soon as I saw the STOP sign I just stopped reading, and it wasn't until we went to see our win bonus that I realized our mistake.

We were fortunately very luck and able to fix it immediately based on how the game had ended, but still...WHOOPS!

We just did this last night. We also overlooked the chained outbreaks that cause end-of-game and put a sticker on every city in the chain even though that would've brought us past eight stickers.

We're trying to decide how to go about fixing this... either just restart or try and fudge through it the best we can reckon.

That combo is great, but it's hardly game breaking. There are even better combos than that IMO. Scientist-Researcher coworkers, for example.

But only possible if you only use one of them in your first game.

We managed to get this scientist-researcher combo going in our game, it is very powerful but still not game breaking. Even with this combo we have lost a few games (in fact lost whole months), so far we have totally lost May and August and won every other month the first try, we are about to start October.

Who says you have to destroy the card? Why not just put it under the insert and dont use it again? Its not like Matt is going to kick down your door because you didnt tear up the medic card.

Or will he......?

you might as well destroy them, since the game is not really playable in any fun way once you have finished the game.
