Thread: Unmatched: Battle of Legends, Volume Two:: Rules:: Ruyi Jingo Bang Clarification

My wife and I were playing a game with Sun Wukong vs. Buffy, and I was wondering about the Ruyi Jingo Bang card. Does Tricked You only apply if the opponent plays a defense card specifically? Or can it be a versatile card? Thanks for the help!

I've also wondered about perhaps making the game a squad based tactical combat game. It would need a larger board and you could have 3 or 4 heroes squaring off against each other. There would be terrain effects (like the elevation in the newest set , or doors in the Beowulf set) and possibly generic "supply cache" locations where you could pick up extra cards to add to your deck. You would activate 2 heroes per turn. The hurdle is that the exhaustion mechanic is kind of restrictive and can both be very punishing and/or abused. This is why I thought of the supply cache idea and you only activate 2 heroes per turn. Essentially you'd need to prioritize going for specific terrain advantaged areas or supply caches, and you'd have to juggle your characters and figure out how to parcel out your cards(and subsequent exhaustion). Naturally, it would need a bigger board, and you'd need to use opaque sleeves for all your card backs (as you'd be adding supply cache cards to the deck).

Isn't this essentially the Warhammer Underworlds system? You have a number of characters per side, the board has obstacles, and you get to add "non-character" cards to the deck. The main difference is that the warbands are set (can't mix and match), and that the deck can be tweaked.

Would be interesting to take the Unmatched design down this path though, and see where we end up.

I am currently cobbling together the enemy units to run the game. Instead of Gnolls, I'll use Orcs. It has given me a chance to look at what I already own, buy what I need, and finish painting both minis and terrain.

When reading through the book, I had flashbackacks to when I first started playing Dungeons & Dragons in the middle 80s, and dropped the Warhammer Empire angle for some old school fantasy. 😊
I’ve been rummaging through my fantasy board games that use minis, all my all Warhammer stuff, terrain and so on, and bought a whole Santa sleigh load of new stuff, and been building and painting like a madman for the last week, so I’m almost ready to start playing.

P.S. I also went the orc route, as I had some lying around.

I don't know Warhammer Underworlds. Maybe? Your use of singular "the deck" implies the characters all share one deck. My idea is that let's say you have Bruce Lee, King Arthur, and the Raptors squaring off against The Invisible Man, Deadpool, and Little Red... they'd each have their own decks (and hands) and you would choose to activate any 2 on your turn. So you could have King Arthur run up to higher ground and Bruce Lee grab supplies from the Cellar (I dunno... a crossbow card?) which would get mixed into his deck.

It's definitely clunky and fiddly sounding, just was an idea I thought might be fun.

Christmas… 😊
Ever since Emma’s mother and I split up, we’ve had this deal where we spend Christmas together, (with Emma’s mother’s family) and I have Emma with me on New Year’s Eve.
Emma’s mother has a new boyfriend, so now his family is also in the mix, so last year I spent Christmas Eve with my ex girlfriend’s new inlaws(!) 😄
This year we go to her sister’s, and Emma’s grandmother and some cousins will also be there, I think we’ll be around ten people.

As you may remember, in Denmark we celebrate Christmas on the evening of December 24th, with dinner, dancing around the tree, singing hymns, and then presents.
The 25th and 26th are often used for family lunches. Emma and I are having my closest family over on the 26th.
After that Christmas is technically over, but I have vacation till after New Year’s Eve.

My younger brother's birthday was yesterday (16th), my sister's is on the 27th, mine is on the 28th, my wedding anniversary is on the 20th, and we also celebrate Xmas Eve, Xmas, and gather for dinner on the 31st, to eat grapes at midnight, one with each of the 12 chimes that announce the New Year. On the first day of the year, I haven't missed the New Year Concert from Vienna for the last 30 years or so.

So, basically, my family doesn't celebrate these dates as much as survives them! 😂 Lots of chances for major eating and dining, and even boardgaming, if those full bellies allow us...
The giving of presents in Spain has always been during Twelfth Night (January 6th), when we celebrate the arrival of the Three Wise Men from the East that gifted Baby Jesus with gold, frankincense and myrrh, but lately the kids insist on having presents on December too. We oblige, since that way they have more time to enjoy their toys before going back to school (usually on January 8th). All of that means that from 16th of December to 8th of January, this is the best time of the year, for me.

On a personal note, I already have all my presents bought (Fall Blau: Army Group South, June to December 1942, Last Night on Earth: The Zombie Game – 10 Year Anniversary Edition, the three expansions for Warhammer Invasion I already mentioned, The Witcher 3 GOTY edition for my PS4, Stalingrad '42: Southern Russia, June-December, 1942, the Ravenloft guidebook for D&D 5th edition, and the first three books of the Dune saga, because the ones I had all my life are so worn out that literally the pages have begun to fall as I read...). It's a too important task that I don't trust to lesser hands.

I genuinely liked the bulky supervan prototype of the Tabletop Simulator copy, but then again I also liked the muted red/blue/yellow colors you were using and it looks like you're moving in the direction of the original game's blue/green/rust instead and... well, I'm not a fan of those myself, but it's not a dealbreaker I guess it would open up more color opportunities for expansion teams?

I think the part I'm most hesitant about is the skirts that make it look like a tank as others have pointed out, and the thing that sells that is the evidently full-covered skirts. What about just having flared skirts instead that would leave the wheels exposed on the sides but still sell armored bulk?

Since this Christmas Eve will be my 70th Birthday but I have almost no blood family left, people have been showing up as they can to celebrate with me, and I've bought myself some presents (including games, of course)! By coincidence things I've backed on Kickstarter before the Pandemic have been just coming in, and I'm still awaiting one more before Christmas; the last will finally be here in January.

Usually my Canadian pal comes down for a week, but the borders were closed last year, and he can't make it this year. So I sent out my gaming host schedule every weekend to many other players, and I'm still gaming, right up to and through the holidays. Being retired and usually available, its a matter of when other people can drop by! This is usually around the holidays rather than on them. The holidays themselves therefore are usually quiet, but snug and comfy.

🎁*Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!*🍻

Hi there. I was playing yennenga against Achilles and was wondering I played surprise volley for my first action to spawn in an archer then I played momentous shift with the spawned archer. Would the effect on momentous shift trigger since technically the archer was off the board and wouldn't have started that turn on the same space?

Relevant card text for reference:
“During Combat: If your fighter started this turn in a different space, this card's value is 5 instead.”

From what I’ve read, “off of the board” is not considered to be a “space” (based on similar rulings for Invisible Man’s Vanish), so the effect would not change the card’s value to 5 in this case.

First generation American and first generation Catholic here so my family didn't really have any traditions to go from past generations re: Christmas. As a kid I remember the extended family used to get together in a big gathering and open presents the night before and that was also the big (late) dinner and kids' talent show and sometimes midnight mass. It was only later in life (after getting married) that we started the opening presents Christmas morning with the kids thing along with grandparents and close friends. Also early afternoon dinner started seeping in.

Lately we've been hosting NYE at our place with Peking Duck as the order of business before games then countdown. This year we'll be travelling though.

In any case, hope y'all have a festive holiday season!

It's somewhat similar to Jesper's - ie. both the timing (24th) and complex family as well. So we will probably spend the evening with the oldest girl, along with the boy, while the middle two girls spend the evening with their father. Otherwise the boy and the middle girls will stay at our house for most of the holidays. So we will be 7-8 during the holidays, plus 4 on the 24th.
I'm not sure about the traditional 'skata' (cured ray) on the 23rd, maybe we will skip it this year, but on the 25th and 26th there will probably be some more family meetings. But definetly some gaming! :)

I hope the KS campaign has a stretch goal for an alt van regardless of which style they end up going with. I think the bulky van is ugly and would like something more traditional. If they do end up going traditional lots of players would love a bulky alt sculpt.
