Ah I see. For some reason I thought it was today (May 19) instead of next week, even though the initial post clearly indicates the time. Well, my bad. Thank you everyone.↧

Reply: SeaFall:: Rules:: Re: Goods Trading - No Glory?
by Becq
If you take the guilds completely separately, then the mechanism by which Trade generates glory is through accumulation of wealth in the form of Treasure -- you buy goods, sell some for coins, then trade goods and coins in for treasure (glory). Certain advisors can also generate glory via Trade alone. But more realistically, the guilds work best in combination. Trade is one of the most expedient methods of generating coins needed for the other guilds.
Building can't do anything without Trade, but the two combined work well. Both combined can also provide ship upgrades to improve Exploration and/or Raiding. Trade can also generate money for Exploration's research. Raid can do some of the things that Trade does (acquire money and goods), but will need the other guilds to make use of those spoils -- for example, Trade to convert goods into money.
I have not played the game with a glory variant, but I think cutting every individual glory award (except treasure, leave that as is) in half (round up) feels as though it's the most balanced. Treat each award individually, even if gained on the same turn or even the same action. So the basic award for exploration is halved, rounded up (ie, always 1), and the Booke award is halved, rounded up, and the milestone award is halved, rounded up. I suggest this over raising glory objectives because the latter doesn't address imbalances (real or perceived) between different types of rewards.
Up to you, though; you could certainly play the game as is, if you prefer. Feel free to look through the Variants forums for potential 2p variants, if you feel the game is too open.
Oh, and regarding raiding -- remember that it only generates glory if you survive *and* pillage something (inflict damage or steal)!

Being a Legacy game means, like Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, you are not supposed to find everything. We still have event cards sealed that are unlikely to be opened unless we find the right Captains Booke entry. The sweet spot player wise is 4, that way you get a good level of different game play styles.

I've played twice, both with four players. Though I haven't tried different player counts, I agree that four is probably the sweet spot -- fewer and you end up with a board that is "too open", and a fifth player would slow the game down too much for my tastes. Others' mileage may vary, of course!

As for the 2-player rule modifications, the main thing we adjusted was the total score each game that triggers the end of the individual game. We always bumped that up to 50%. In addition, we had a general peace treaty throughout the game. Outside of that, I can’t think of anything else that we adjusted.↧

With four, was there a lot of downtime between turns?

Well I certainly wouldn't avoid it. It needs to happen! But also forcing it kinda messes up the game. So I think there's two ways of doing it wrong and the middle road is best.[o]If you really wanna makes things "interesting" toss in one of the DNOE packs. Good or bad it makes things interesting.[/o]

That's going to depend a lot on the players, but all things being equal it seems fair to assume that a 4p game would have about three times as much downtime as a 2p game, though increasing the glory threshold will also increase game length overall.
If your goal is to lower downtime at any expense, then reduce player count. But that also decreases interaction and competition over resources/milestones considerably (which may or may not be Bad depending on your preferences), so you have a tradeoff. I also think the campaign as a whole (number of games) will go longer with more fewer players.

Newcomer here. Sorry I couldn't vote for your work. Brilliant solo mode to a brilliant game !Did anyone else try and make the IA less mechanical by tweaking the rules a little ? Some of these tweaks can be hero-specific :
- against Arthur The Villain keeps 3 feints visible to be used on boosted attacks.
- against Bigfoot it'll go for the Jackalope first before the deadly "Jackalope horns" cards (I play the french version, not sure what the actual name is) take a 1/3 of its life out
And some of them will be more general :
- when The Villain is double maneuvering toward my hero, I'll keep it one space away from them, forcing me to make spend my 1st action moving if I want to attack
- The Villain boost card is taken randomly from the discard as soon as it becomes an option to make its moves less predictable
So far tho, I have not played the trait cards, mostly because I forgot but it usually felt intimidating enough as it was.

Hi,When resolving Mythos cards, are Cuktists considered Monsters?
E.g. in card Chaos in the Labs: "Move the Elder One and each monster..."
Should I move also the Cultists?

Cultists are not monsters. See p. 7 of the rulebook:Any enemy that’s not a Cultist or the Elder One is a “monster”. Anything that refers to Cultists affects Cultists only. Anything that refers to monsters affects monsters only. Anything that refers to the Elder One affects the Elder One only.

I would like to try this out. Where can I get files for the Villain deck? Everywhere I look the only files I see are for the rules only.EDIT: Nevermind, I just saw the link to the deck. Thanks for making and sharing this. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

I didn't know Hol.rd was a fencer (nor Watson ex-military). I suppose it makes sense he would be the idealised renaissance man.
I also didn't know the little girl characters are represented as grown women. And I didn't know they had back stories.
I am.now completely softened to the characters. I am excited for Houdini. I ordered Red vs Beowulf - mostly for Red (I could take or leave Beowulf).
Thanks you every one for indulging my curiosity and tolerating my negativity. I didn't come here to complain, I wanted to be sold on this, and I totally am!

Hi all. I have lived Epic Duels since 2002, and naturally was interested when I heard about unmatched.I was concerned the maps looked a bit abstract in terms I tactical movement, but a little education and now I love them.
I was a bit iffy on some of the characters I do not think of as warriors, but I am 100% softened to them now.
Last night I ordered

- BoL Volume I
- Cobble & Fog
- Ingen vs Raptors
- Robin vs Bigfoot
- Red vs Beowulf
- Bruce Lee
15 characters.
I was never into Buffy, but it turns out my wife watched every episode back in the 90s. Website was sold out of Buffy, which is probably okay because this is a lot of money for a single purchase already. I'll get it later.
Not so much into Grant. I bought JP for tp the dinosaurs! Then again, wife also likes JP, so I might need that eventually.

Thanks to everyone who helped to sell me on this!
