As somebody who has only played through Chapter 3, I didn't consider Robert's post to be a spoiler until it was pointed out to be one. (Actually, even now, after having read all of the spoiler tags thus far, I don't see a big deal here, which is only leading me to expect something big that isn't obvious at the moment, which is perhaps more of a spoiler than if it were just left alone.)

I just played my first game today and wondered the very same thing. You played correctly with the sneaking yes.

As for the damage when sneaking, I say sure, there is nothing saying you cant. I see it as you stab a cultist in the back, and zip out the door...then you sneak back in and stab em again haha

I've addressed this issue before. No matter what we do, some folks aren't going to like the direction we take our restorations. I get it. And, yes, it's true that folks can still play the original if that's more to their liking. But I also completely understand the disappointment when someone says they're going to do a new version of a game you love and it doesn't feature things you like. It feels like a missed opportunity.

That said, all we can do is make the best possible game we can. I assure you, we didn't make the game cooperative on a whim. We did it because we think it makes it a better game. When it comes out, we hope you'll give it a try.

I agree that this is a new, fresh take on HPL mythos inspired games. It's a lot of fun. The mechanics are engaging and the difficulty is shockingly well balanced (Although I have had not had the time of trying most episodes, Elder Ones).

They hire incredible artists, I just wish they'd consider hiring actual writers. The game is obviously made to be a bit corny and over-the-top, but there can be style even in that.

That, unfortunately, is what made me stop backing anything made by CMoN after Death May Die.

Everything they make is like a fun, overproduced, B-movie that gives you laughs and maybe some emotional reactions every now and then. But there's a limit to how many one-liners and how much slapstick humor I can take.

I was also unsure about Sneak - so it's a total number of things you can ignore when you move over the whole turn? Not per space?

When you get to level 4 do you deal 1 wound to everything (and they don't follow you)?

Weapon Bonuses when critical: #1. If you can't pay the penalty, then you are not using the weapon. If you're carrying a ranged weapon that has a penalty but you can't use it, then you're not making a ranged attack, you're just doing a normal punch.

Discovered tiles: I think you can consider the starting tiles to be "discovered," because if not, then this rulebook entry would make things extremely weird: "Tiles are adjacent if they are both discovered and connected by a doorway or other effect." If starting tiles did not count as "discovered," then you could literally never move between them and other tiles, because they would not be adjacent.

Hey guys- not to crash this thread, but I have another question on Adam’s Fueled by Madness ability.

Can you walk me through how many dice he is gaining? At level 0, he gets to add 1 dice on every insanity threshold. So he’ll have +6 at the end if he never levels up that skill but runs the insanity track to the end (while other investigators will be + 4 die at end).

His level 1 power gives him those 6 dice sooner.

But his level 2 power gives him two more dice, so at insanity thresholds (actually the space before)3-6 he can get 8 more, so 10 total bonus dice?

At level 3 he gets 3 more dice every space before an insanity threshold for 4-6, so he’s get 12 more by the last threshold? Giving him 13 bonus dice at the end of the game?

Plus with marksman level 1 he would have an additional +2 dice, so he’s rolling 15 bonus dice?

Am I doing this correctly?

Thanks so much!

CMON campaign-based game - “Why won’t you make a mode where we can just play one session and it’s done?”

CMON single session game - “This NEEDS a campaign mode!”

Every. Single. Time.

Games like The Others and Death May Die were designed from the ground up as single scenario games. There’s nothing to “carry over” into the next scenario without breaking that carefully designed balance. You have to realize that every time you demand that a game designer implement some mode that was ever in the plan, what you’re really saying is “can’t you redesign this game to fit my personal expectation instead of your own vision for what it should be?” You’re insulting the designer.

Just enjoy the game for what it is, or, if the omission of a campaign is a dealbreaker for you, skip it and go buy one of the many, many other similar games that were designed from the ground up around a deep, involved campaign. I recommend Gloomhaven.

Have a look at https://cmon-files.s3.amazonaws.com/pdf/assets_item/resource...

This file from CMON explicitly lists the accumulated effects available at each level of each skill.

In this case, the bonus dice gained at each skill level don't aggregate. So, when his Fueled by Madness is at Level 4, and he is on an Insanity spot or immediately to the left of one, he gets 3 bonus dice in total from it (not 3 + 2 + 2 + 1).

If he is Level 2 or above with his Marksman-ship, he adds another two bonus dice in total when attacking an enemy not in his current space.

The other possible bonus dice from Discovery cards or how many Insanity spots he has reached on the Insanity track are the same as for other characters. With a Pistol (I think), and suitable skill upgrades, I was rolling 10 dice for him by the end of the game.

I don't understand how it trivializes the game, since those connected spaces are really nothing different than other spaces that are adjacent.

I didn’t really say it that way. I said it makes it trivially easy at times. Monsters don’t always move and players move freely. The more connectivity the map has, the more it generally favors players. If you get a powered up ranged character who can attack the Elder One without reprisal, it can become very easy. If stairs and passages didn’t allow marksmanship, that would absolutely hamper players without limiting enemies.

And of course it makes no sense that you can shoot a pistol across a map and around corners through a long passageway.

But I found the rule reference you quote and I agree it is clear. I was looking in a different section that had more ambiguous wording.

Oh wow, so reading it again carefully it is WHILE your sanity is on (or one back). So Adam gains an extra dice while on the 1st insanity threshold (other investigators do not), and at 2nd (or space before), then potentially two total extra on the third and then potentially 3 extra dice on the final three thresholds.

So he’s be rolling the 3 extra and 2 more if he is attacking in the adjacent space and has marksman level 1.

I think I may have answered my own question, but was helpful to write it out. :)

Mostly right. I believe this is per run action, not turn. So at level 1 if you have 2 in your zone, and run once, 1 follows. If ypu were to run again, you could ditch the other. Assuming you ran across no others.

I believe so yes.

A long time ago I used to own the game but got rid of it because I had no one to play with. I have thought about requiring it recently and only upon checking the games expansion page found out that it had any at all. I like to play with complete games whenever possible and it looks like it would be fun to play with all of the different game boards but from the look of these expansions, a lot of them were promos or are now out of print. I am not used to acquiring these kinds of items so I was wondering if anyone knows a good way of getting a complete game without spending several hundred dollars? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey!

Sorry for the late response! The exact name of the product is:
20pc Wild Republic mini shark Figurine playset. I've taken 2 box to get the sharks i really wanted. They cost me 8 box each (Canadian money) And i've found them in a toy store, near the schleich plastic animals.

Disclamer, i've search on the site and what i've found is not exactly what i have...they seem to have the "32pc" here the site:

Use this link instead, that's the right one :)

https://whistle-stop.com/mini-shark-figurine-playset.html/?S...

Here's some quick pics of my setup, i've choose to use à blue fabric used as a tablecloth(15$) to mimic the sea around the island. It help to blend the shark.

I'm probably gonna build them into base-like pieces to dispatch around the island.
