[o]I don't have the cards in front of me. The question turns on whether the event card describes what is happening as an *attack*, then yes, it is treated as a normal attack and dice can be removed for garrison, support ships, whatever. If the card says "roll x dice, and if it gets y successes...," then you just roll what the card says.[/o]

Where is there an apostrophe? I'm not sure what you are referring to.

The OP deleted their post. Guess I should have quoted it.

How about just “honor”?

That's a much bigger set of implications.

[o]The "Mapping the Otherworlds" sidegoal is added to each of the haunts in Chapter 9 (the card also allows you to discard your photo to the tomb for a reroll). This sidegoal card is destroyed after the chapter ends.

Because there seemed to be no immediate benefit or relevance to our haunt (Reanimator, #28 I think), and because the Otherworlds have been notoriously punishing to us and I was at all critical stats, we didn't bother to risk mucking around in the Otherworlds. I'm kind of salty now that I didn't since I didn't realize the option would vanish.

It seems to me that the only reason to work on this side goal is due to metagaming-- mark these cards now for no other reason than it might come back later. Is there any narrative reason this comes up when it does? I would think mapping the Otherworlds would be something our explorer team would do, not our mental patients trying not to be turned into walking corpses. Is it more relevant for other haunts in the chapter? [/o]

I also like that the rules explicitly say that you can (and probably should) read aloud text boxes in the Haunts. Of course we keep forgetting that out of habit, and as a result I'm pretty sure a BUNCH of our haunts have been played very wrong lol. But it makes it much easier to have a rules discussion when we can all access the same info and interpret it together. And a lot of little things (ACTIONS in all caps especially) are so much cleaner now.

I also especially appreciate the events deck reflecting the house's history. Yeah I'm sad when I have to toss a bunch of events from the Purgatory deck that we won't be using, but it's super cool to know that the Pools of Blood y'all just drank from are MY ANCESTOR'S BLOOD. From the corpses out in the BLOOD FIELD. Like you do.

Um, unless you have a need to go into the otherworlds I would stay the hell out of them.

That being said, there will be haunts where you have to venture forth into them.

We had similar questions, and we did not do the side goal.

[o]What happens when you rebuke the ancestor?
In the rules it states it sends the ancestor to the portal and prevents them from collapsing the house. Is the ancestor no longer able to move or does the ancestor have to go back up to the correct level to collapse the house? [/o]

Personally I wouldn't worry about it. I think the main point is to have fun. I'd note the problem and move on correctly. If you are having a good time then it is accomplishing it's goal.

Hmm. Unless that game was in January, there's something you could have done to mitigate the risk of that happening. And we tended to do that something ASAP unless there was a screaming urgency to deal with instead.

Admittedly, that was just to cover ourselves against minor mishaps; we weren't afraid of anything quite as bad as your experience!

(We only got three scars in the entire of Season One; one of those was strategic and voluntary.)

Yeah, we didn't do the thing. We realized after the fact that we should have done the thing, but we didn't. I guess certain actions were deemed more important at the time, and we weren't expecting our starting city to be on the bottom of the infection deck or the first city drawn in the next infection step.

We ended Season One with four scars. The above-mentioned one was our first. Our second came from a bad chain outbreak in May, and the last two were both due to a game-ending outbreak chain in early December that caught two players in the crossfire.

What Alex said -- though to clarify, only use the raid rules if it specifies that a *raid* is being performed; otherwise just follow the instructions without using the raid rules.

I think the cards you are talking about
[o]specify either that you should roll dice and compare to your hull (which sounds like a raid but isn't) or perform a raid using X dice (which uses the raid rules other than forming the dice pool step.[/o]

Other effects might tell you to roll your raid pool, but that is not a 'raid'.

Question 1: [o]No. Think of it as though the King's pirate minions -- many of whom where away raiding during the fight -- are trying to avenge their lost leader.[/o]

Question 2: [o]Yeah, you probably shouldn't be shopping for goods and services at Ker. As to enmity, island enmity only applies to interactions (raids and purchases) at native sites, not colonies (which are a separate region). Only enmity on your province and in the attackers at war box affect raids against your colonies.[/o]

This thread is all about the [o]omen cards[/o] you earn throughout the game, so if you don’t want to be spoiled, well that’s on you pal.

[o]I’m morbidly curious what omens other groups have ended up with.

We let the winning player write flavor text on each games omen card (space permitting)

Here are the omens of the clans Allen, Baytz, Taggart and Whittles.

Brooch of Rage “KILL ‘EM ALL!!! don’t scream KILL in a game store, people stare.”

Crucifix of Rituals “I can’t believe they forgot about it!”

The Playful Porcelain Doll “The Cat’s favorite toy”

(This next one is odd. We destroyed the original talisman and ended up with:
Corrupted Talisman “F#@!%’n told you I was innocent”

Hand Mirror of Corruption “A mummy lent me a hand”

Apothecary Kit of Infestation Small red ants have been drawn all over this card

Wedding Veil of Disease “That Blue Box broke the vials! It wasn’t my fault! I swear!!”

Kris of Goring “I know a Chris ... He’s not from Goring though.”

The Mutilated Portrait “I hate the monkey”

Radio of Mutation “I’ll kill you with my Bear Hands”

The Incriminating Meteorite No text, card is busy enough

Reforged Spear “Wait... I died?”

The best part is whenever I play this copy with a new group as a one shot, I’m sure they’ll ask questions about the omens and then I can just tell them the wonderful stories my friends created together.

I’d love to see what you all came through the game with. [/o]

Ooh, we might have to do the flavor text thing. I assume quotes in the general vein of what you find on the previously-named items? (and other places)

Yeah, "raid," not "attack." Whoops.

I only wanted to clarify that because the other type of roll could easily be considered an 'attack'. :)

The Japanese was even worse. It added a subtle word right in the middle which made us do the mistake too. See for yourself:[o]"If you're standing at a military base, you can quarantine all directly connected cities."[/o]:p

Regards,
Yesterday in our game we had a doubt with the looting of the ships.
My friend attacked and sank one of my boats, using a counselor who did damage for each success only gave me 2 tokens of hostility.

As I read in the rules that hostility is placed on my board, in the war zone.

I now have several doubts:
1. My friend has the ability in his area of hostility to obtain success at the end of the game (the checks in his zone of hostility). Even if you do not have any fortune or reputation token that check counts as a success and can reduce hostility? or does that check turn a failure into success?

2. If the game ends that same round, what do I do with the hostility of the war zone? Where do I place stickers? Are the effects for the next game lost?

3. Another doubt arises with looting in the rival region, if I loot a field of cultivation of the opponent with 1 defense, I must give a token of hostility that he places in his field, and after the winter he places it in the zone of war.

4. If my friend attacks me in the future, what hostilities will reduce his number of dice.

Thank you very much for the help, I have tried to read previous questions but I do not finish having it clear.
