If the insert is licensed it is typically exclusive. This does not stop other companies from making unlicensed products but does stop them from using any intellectual property. This included the game logo, publishing logo, icons from the game and anything that may have been copyrighted.

My 2 girls are 4 and 6 so I modify a lot of my games to make the playable with them. There’s a bit too much text on the cards for a 4yo and too slow for them to stay interested.

I started with 2d6+ the orange d3 but found it was giving too high move rolls. The cards minimum move is 4 I think. We settled in on 2d6 for movement and the the tunnel die would activate a “cataclysm” on a “1”. I tracked the number of cataclysms so I knew when to add a marble to the scar. We also allowed an ember marble attack for each “1” on the 2d6 Dice. Any marble launch was preceded by turning one thing on the island.

I may change the ember launch to a “6” roll allowing you a better chance to get out of your own way knowing you’ll launch them at the end of your turn.

There were some dry spells where no marbles were launched but those were made up for at the end when random chance had us launching every turn, and even a few cataclysm and ember rolls on the same turn.

It worked for our first try, but please post your ideas.

Title says it all. Our group isn't sure when to check off an item box. Is it everytime we draw it? Or just specific cases??

Thanks in advance!

Those sound like great ideas. Interesting how you used the dice to replace the action text also. :sauron:

Only when instructed. The instructions may be on the card but this isn’t always true. The bleak journal may tell you to do so. Also look up the intensify rules in the rulebook. But only do so when told.

I haven't received my copy yet (or shipping for that matter cry). But I have concerns about the board warping under heat and the fact that the game is shipping at a cold time of year makes me anxious of what may come.

I know that the board should have some "give" but I can't make a call on that at the moment.

Right now I'm considering an epoxy resin, but I was wondering if anyone else was going to attempt this. I will post my results once I try it out.

James' answer is correct. You put the game on Super Hard mode as opposed to Kind of Hard mode.

Holy crap. We've been playing on Super Hard Mode since April. (With kids!!) Starting September now.

That said, we've gone 4-3 since April despite Super Hard Mode.

Do we get extra points for playing on SHM?

My box is very strong, I don't see how anyone can say otherwise, I don't care for the bend but that's the only negative I can say about it.

"Not-linen printed heavy chipboard" apparently translates to "Garbage." My box is absolutely fine.

Look at the thickness of your average boardgame box. The cardboard here is much thinner. Also there are folds on the sides (like you would get with a gift box you pick up at the store). This lessens the rigidity of the box. Again, I don’t play with the box so I don’t much care. However given the flex in the box and the nature of the vacuum formed trays, I would not put anything on top of it.

How about this. Of all the board games I own (and I have a Platinum BGG collection badge, so that is a lot ) I have only two other games with boxes that have the same or lower levels of sturdiness (at least in my perception).

What are the two other games?

One was Imperial Crisade Armada. The components were great with ships made of credit card material that you could write on with a dry erase marker. It was a minis style ship combat game without minis. However the box was barely paper.

The other was Techno Bowl. The game was great but the box was Print and Play quality. However, I don’t think that the box had those side creases so even that one felt a little more rigid.

Restoration Games lost some trust with me. Sticking their backers with such a cheap box was a low blow that none of us saw coming. We loved pandemic legacy and since we bought into the "same designer" marketing, we incorrectly assumed the box would roughly be the same. That box is amazing. I won't back another one of their games for sure. Only wait and see from now on. Now I'm not a CMON lover, but they have earned trust from backers. Again, I'm disappointed in the sneaky ways Restoration Games has cut corners in quality to the backers who trusted and prepaid for their product.

You are entitled to your opinion but I think that this is a little excessive. Trust me...there are MUCH worse boxes that I have received as part of Kickstarters.

Restoration was clearly trying to get a game that they could sell to the mass market. The price point of the game is already pretty high so at this level, 5 dollars could make or break a sale. I would take the box that I got and get the game that I got.

I am sitting here staring at my copy set up and all I have to say is WOW. If I really need a better storage solution I suspect that Broken Token will get it for me. :D

Restoration’s next KS will be Return to the Dark Tower and I am really looking forward to seeing what they do with this one. I am still a fan.

As for the CMON comment...Sure, the quality is great. You get what you pay for. They are a hobby company and they have conditioned us to throw large amounts of money their way. They can afford more expensive components. Restoration could do the same if hobby gamers were the only ones that they wanted to sell to, but this game could help them break through to a larger market, so more power to them.

you should have seen the original - basically a 2' x 3' cereal box

The board gives a bit when pushing in the trees for set up, but doesn’t really effect gameplay at all. The cold shouldn’t effect the game during shipping.
For anyone with room on their shelf for an 18” box to be stored vertically, I might worry about warping over a long period of time with the segments stored upright.

We have the green, blue, and gold families.

Blue decided to go with Spanish ancestry and named his family the Esperanza family.

Gold took the sunny crest of the Gold family and reversed it by naming his family Dunkel or the German word for Darkness.

My family, Green, is the Crane family. This is because I love Shirley Jackson and her family name for those who lived in the House in the Haunting of Hill House was Crain. But the crest is a bird, so I went with Crane.

Mine made it to my FLGS in the Midwest and it was cold 30-40 degree weather (accuweather's 90 day)

Quartermaster Logistics warehouse is located in Orlando, Florida. I assume it shipped from there. Low 45 Hi 85 (avg 60-70).

It was in my FLGS store for 3 days when I picked it up. Put it in my trunk 30 min drive (it also rained ; ) got it inside right away 69-70 degrees. Opened it within several minutes.

Held my breath for similar reasons and read one or two people on BGG had fitting problems.

Thankfully it fits together fine. Is not warped at all. The path art doesn't align perfectly but I think that just the way it is. The plastic is thicker and more sturdy than I thought.

The inside of the sides of the box have a graphic:

WARNING: EXPOSURE
TO EXCESSIVE HEAT
CAN CAUSE DAMAGE
TO THE GAMEBOARD

One thing that is so endearing about BaHotH is the narrative that you get to create within each of the different haunts. I love how Betrayal Legacy lets you stretch that out into a longer and more epic story arc. It fits the theme so well! It’s like you’re filling in the backstory of the house you’ve always* been exploring! (*For those that were BaHotH players).

So in that vein does anyone have any excerpts they want to share or themes that have emerged from the history of their house? Maybe labeled by the chapter and with spoiler tags - if needed.

Why oh why do these same families keep coming back and dying on the grounds!
