Thread: Risk Battlefield Rogue:: Variants:: Squad Based "Adrenaline" Style Variant?

I had an interesting idea, what do you all think if you were to combine Risk Battlefield: Rogue with the mechanisms of Adrenaline (the board game) to create a squad based, objective driven (like capture the flag, attack and defend, king of the hill or deathmatch) varient?

I haven't thought it all out yet but each player would control a squad of four specialist. I think the Adrenaline mechanisms would definately give it a Squad Based FPS like feel and keep thing's simplified.

Some Ideas:
Line of sight would be determined by adjacent spaces within a board tile (using the Risk B:R tiles) unless a weapon says otherwise

Select Adrenaline weapons to equip to each squad member, depending on role.
Weapons would opporate according to Adrenaline Mechanics and cards.
Ammo would shared by the squad.

Maybe the squad's individual members activate (in the order the player chooses) before passing to the next player for his activations.
Or maybe each squad activates 2 members of their choice in turn order then each player activates the other two (total of 4 for each player) then the round ends.

Each member should be able to take 5 points of damage before having to respawn. Maybe a healing ability given to one of the members? Maybe a toughness ability to another member?

Game Ending conditions would depend on mode of play:
(Game ends immediately when conditions have been met)

Deathmatch- after a certain number of kills most similar to Adrenaline play.

Capture the Flag- after a certain number of times the flag has been captured 3,5,7? secondary- kill count.

King of the hill- After a certain number of Hill points awarded for control 3,5,7? secondary- Kill count.

Supremacy- which is basically King of the hill with multiple control points

Attack and defend- not sure, maybe after a certain number of rounds (everyone gaines a number of points for each defending territory space they control)seconday- kill count.

Winner is decided by who has the most points when the game ending conditions have been met.

Any other Ideas?
does this sound like fun?
or worth developing?

That does sound like fun! I am of the opinion that Battlefield Rogue is a severely underdeveloped game. It has great components and can use all the homebrew remedies to fix it!

That's a really good point. We found that aspect of this haunt to be frustrating too. (I was playing with my two teenage sons who were kind enough to play a round with me, but not wanting to spend hours doing it.)

Our improvised solution to that problem was:

[o]Instead of ending when the last possible room tile could be placed anywhere in the house, we decided the winner would either be whoever a) drew the last card from the draw pile or b) removed the last marker from the Runner.[/o]
This made it a sprint instead of a marathon…

Hello, what happens if all Research Stations are destroyed, and no other Research Stations were on the map at the end of the game leaving the players without a Research Station for the next game to begin at?

Thanks, I might of overlooked this in the rule book and couldn't find the answer online. Sorry if it has already been answered elsewhere.

Nm, I found the answer on page 5 in the rule book under Lost Characters. Players begin in Atlanta without a Research Station.

You've come to the correct conclusion for the wrong reason. The rule you found covers what happens if a character is Lost during a game, but if you look at Step 7 of setup (p6) you'll see it says something equivalent about starting the game with no research stations.

What you could do, if it just seems too easy, is picking the last (and, if you want one but last) character at random at the start of your next game. So, if you play with 4, you select 2 (3) that you want to play with and pick the last ones at random (or take civilians for those).
Has nothing to do with possibly not-earned positive mutations, but it makes it certainly harder.

Agree with both of the above. The game is severely under-developed. And the Arenaline "graft" sounds very promising.

I'm loving this game. Sleeved cards make a difference too. And did someone mention home-brew?

We played 2 players with 7 cards each and it was awesome, thanks for that!

Besudes that: we made two small tweaks regarding madness cards:
- level 1 and 2 piles have 3 cards each, level 3 pile has 2 cards;
- when you have to draw a madness card, draw from the lowest non empty pile.

These changes make the mandatory penalty die rolls happen a little later in the game.

It's a niche product, sure, but people who say it isn't good are wrong. A minority of people who have played it love it.

I'll say you're wrong, too. According to the best numbers available to me (the ratings on BGG), well over half of those rating the game rated it as 'good' or better.

I'll certainly agree that it is a 'polarizing' game and that there are a minority of people (a sizeable and very vocal minority, but a minority nonetheless) who have despised it.

BGG ratings are interesting. Especially for kickstarter games. Especially for Legacy games. ESPECIALLY for this one.

I'd say there is a vocal minority who LOVE it, but a minority nonetheless. ;)

Initial rush of 9's and 10's by the enthusiasts before they have ever played the game. Another bump of 8's, 9's and 10's for a few months as folks get the game and a chance to play their first few games..but before the reach the mid-game.
As time goes on, those "early campaign" ratings are more tempered....more 7's, fewer 9's than 10's. They've been forewarned.

Few of those who end up dropping the game come back to revise/follow up their initial positive ratings. Their scores remain inflated.

[o]We just unlocked box 5. One of the milestones is about finding the secret to the Silver statue. Earlier on in the campaign one of our players found the Silver Statue but did not climb it and as a result the land site had a market placed down on the site instead. My question is whether we will ever be able to find that statue again and if not does that mean that that particular milestone is no longer going to be something that can be completed? [/o]

Thread: SeaFall:: Rules:: Can research cards be used at tomb sites?

I have a lot of research cards that give bonus' to searching land sites. I assumed that this would allow me to get a bonus when exploring a tomb site as it is on land. However my group thought that land sites were only the initial spots on islands before anything is placed there. Which is the correct ruling?

We recently finished and we played research cards as applying to exploration of tombs if applicable.

Remember, you select a tomb number and then read the paragraph in order to determine what type of action you will be doing. (exploration, sailing or raiding)

The tomb is on land, innit it?

There are land sites and sea sites. If you’re exploring open sea, it’s a sea site. If you’re exploring something on land, it’s a land site. Don’t overthink it.

While I personally know of at least one haunt that seems virtually impossible for the traitor that might benefit from this, for most haunts this would mean the traitor wins the game in the first turn around the table.

Colony: "Buy Goods +2 at this region."

Caravan Driver: "During a buy action, you may also buy goods from the supply for 6 gold each. Place these goods in your province warehouse. Sell Goods +2. Buy Goods +2."

I'd actually say none have to be from the island and all 6 could be from the bank. I interpret the Colony ability just to modify any Buy Goods action while you are at the island. I don't see it as saying 2 of the goods have to be from the island.
