Thread: SeaFall:: General:: Help needed - can't end the game - major spoilers (don't read)

[o]
We just finished game 20. We have managed to explore every site except one fire and every tomb except 'Frigid River'. We have 4 milestones left (two statues - the Masques - the End/Beginning) and three unopened event cards (R-U-V) and 4 unfounded colonies. We have destroyed the Temple but not conquered Tortosa. We have interrogated all but 10 advisors.

Through accidental browsing of some spoilers we are aware of the runes on the Tombs map and the codebreakers on the various relics/tablets - though we have not seen anything that provides that connection in the game. So without the spoilers we wouldn't know that. I have now also seen comments about the backs of advisors and again have not seen mention of this 'in game'.

When do we get to act on the runes on the Tomb map? Do we just randomly say I want to read paragraph number xxx?

When we interrogate advisors - should we have also flashed the back side?
[/o]

What clue have we missed? And where do we go from here?

Any bit of guidance is appreciated and will be shared with the other two players.

Thanks,

JimA

Yes, the app keeps track of the money and will let you know when you win or lose, even if you mess something up with your card stack. We were finding a ~30% win rate to start. If you start beating it regularly, you can keep track of how much money you have left in the stack as a "score".

There are advisors you can interrogate that give you clues to these things. That's the key you're missing.

Did you use the cute little [o]matchstick of truth to take the pictures? I imagine that would be challenging. I have some pictures around somewhere that I took with a flashlight of truth I got from Amazon. (Didn't send 'em since it sounded like George had it covered.)[/o]

Yup, are you missing Rule 11: Inquisition on page 13? You should have unlocked that in Box 5 back around game 8-10, or thereabouts.

If you are, here's the text:
(Box 5 spoiler)
[o]Rule 11:
Inquisition
The Light of Truth should be used when an event card instructs you or during an Inquisition

When you make an advisor active, you may interrogate them. If the advisor has no province's enmity, gain one glory for the inquisition. Then place one of your enmity stickers on the advisor. Secretly shine the Light of Truth on the advisor. If the advisor is a society member, you will see their rank as a number (a higher number means a higher rank in the society). Do not reveal the number but read the corresponding entry in the Captain's Booke, then continue your turn. All players may write down what they hear. Enmity on an advisor increases the cost to hire that advisor by one gold for that player per enmity.[/o]

Didn't he say in the OP that they'd interrogated all but 10 advisors? Do you think maybe they're doing interrogation wrong or something?

Sell it in the UK market. It's listed on Amazon.co.uk right now for £96. I ordered mine from the US on ebay and paid a lot (though not that much). With the money you earn, you could buy a game you really, really want.

Or keep it and play it in the smug knowledge you got it super cheap and are the envy of much of the world. :D

For each of the key bits of progression information that the OP's become aware of (light on Tombs Map, light on Tablets, light on back of the advisors), the are maybe two or three advisors who will unlock that ability when interrogated. It could just be really bad luck about who they've chosen to interrogate so far.

Hm. Maybe it is just bad luck? That's odd that they missed several key bits of info that are repeated several times each...

We scored 718 with 4 players (11 wins, 7 losses).

We won December on second try, connected all but 3 cities, found all labs.

We had 11 forsaken cities - we almost never increased population for points as it seemed like a short-term solution, we upgraded our characters heavily instead, so our most used characters (Instructor, Laborer, Radio Operator, the guy from Buenos Aires) all had 4 or 5 abilities. Compared to others, it's interesting that we didn't use the Farmer after the Prologue.

We were also very careful with exposures: before December, we only had two: one empty space and a scar. In December, we sacrificed our Administrator in the first game (when reading the legacy card, choosing her made sense because of her moving abilities - which were cancelled by the Carrier scar right after...), then Chuck Norris from Wellington delivered the sample without even having to use his ability (and since he arrived in the lab, might not even have died after all ;-) ).

Hello All,

So since finding the best game ever in Heroscape, I have had many life changes. Married, two children, and a downsize to a smaller house in the city. Its been too long since I have broken out the massive collection of Heroscpae, and its really just in the way.

I am trying to make room for growing kids, and am wondering how much I could get for selling off some of my games. Any ideas about how much my collection of Heroscape could be worth? Or a good online location to check?

I have at least one of everything. And probably two of everything excluding the hero figures. I didn't really keep up with it. It's in 4 or 5 big plastic tubs.

Any leads or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Liam

Don't do it, Liam!
But if you have to part with your Scape, I'm sure there are plenty of needy fans on Heroscapers.com looking to buy for their own collection.

Yes, we have interrogated all but 10 of the advisors. Should we have interpreted the 'inquisition' instructions to include looking at the back of the advisors? Is there information on the back?

[o]
We also are trying to figure out how to use the runes on the Tombs map. When have the codes and we know there are runes, so when during a turn can a player say I'm looking at the runes and reading the paragraph? Only when you do a Tomb explore (and we have only one location left for this)?

[/o]

[o]
And what is the highest number of the Secret Society? We are supposed to find the leaders, presumably higher numbers than the 36 or 38 we have currently found.

Yes I did. I do have a bigger one somewhere now that I think about it, that would have helped!

We will be able to store the components *IN* one of the 3 parts of the board? This will allow us to save space during storage and prevent our pieces from being lost or damaged.

I always felt like the original should have had that option considering how much empty space was under the board.

So, the following is how it's supposed to work, step by step. Hopefully you can open spoilers one at a time until you work out what you've missed (if, indeed, you have missed something and not just got very unlucky) to avoid unnecessary spoilers...

Spoiler Box 1
[o]You open Chest 5 and gain the ability to interrogate advisers.

You can shine the light on the front of advisers. Some of them will have a number on them. If they do have a number, read that number passage in the Booke to all players.

Some of the passages contain just flavour text - albeit potentially with clues in them - while others have new rules applicable to the campaign.

See the next three spoiler boxes (2-4) for each of these rules (although you seem to be aware of them already).[/o]

Spoiler Box 2
[o]A few advisers, when interrogated, tell you that you can now shine the Light of Truth on any Tablets in your possession. Each tablet has a match between a symbol and a number.

On its own, this information doesn't allow you to progress anything. You also need the following rule.[/o]

Spoiler Box 3
[o]A few advisers, when interrogated, tell you that you can now shine the Light of Truth on the Tombs Map. This reveals seven different codes, each made of three symbols.

On its own, this information doesn't allow you to progress anything. You also need the previous rule. When you have both, got to spoiler box 5.[/o]

Spoiler Box 4
[o]A few advisers, when interrogated, tell you that you can now shine the Light of Truth on the back of advisers when you interrogate them. You do need to unlock this rule (although given your current position, you may choose not to bother, and just start doing it anyway, rather than waiting around to find this rule). See Spoiler Box 6 for info on what this leads to.[/o]

Spoiler Box 5
[o]With the tablet symbols=numbers and the tomb map codes, you can start finding new three digit numbers on the tombs map (once you've held all three relevant tablets for one of these codes). As an Explore action at a Tomb site, you can go to any three-digit entry on the Tombs Map that isn't crossed out - so that can include one of these secret numbers. After visiting it, you'll cross out that secret entry.

This can be from any tomb. Since there's one tomb that can never close, you always have somewhere you can do this from.

See Spoiler Box 7 if you want to know what happens in the secret tombs.[/o]

Spoiler Box 6
[o]When you can look at the back of advisers during interrogation, you'll find most have nothing. Some of them - the four leaders - will have a symbol on the back matching the symbol in the last island inset.

They are the charts. The first time one of you shines the light and finds this symbol, you can claim the The Masques Have Fallen milestone.

With at least one of these advisers in your Council Room, you're able to (attempt to) discover the Island at the End of the World. The chart-adviser doesn't have to be active on the turn you do the Explore, but they can be if you wish.[/o]

Spoiler Box 7
[o]There are two categories of secret room: three good ones that lead you to the secrets of the statues (each allowing you to claim a Milestone, and hence gain a bunch of glory and get an upgrade), and four terrible ones that give you a single glory and nothing else, and make you curse the designers for thinking that was a valid reward for the effort you've gone to.

I leave it to you to see if you can work out ahead of time if there's a way of telling which might be which :)

The Secrets are not necessary for discovering the Island at the End of the World and progressing the story. Who knows if they have an impact on the contents of Chest 6, though...?[/o]

Hope that helps!

Session: Pandemic Legacy: Season 1:: A World at Risk - Part 1, January through March (Spoilers)

by KogarashiKaze

As fans of Pandemic and Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu, my husband and I heard good things about Pandemic: Legacy, and wanted to give it a go. We picked up a copy, talked a pair of friends of ours into it, and have set out on experiencing this story over the course of several game sessions. Three months in, so far so good, and I thought I'd keep something of a game journal and share our session reports.

This account contains spoilers. Read on at your own risk.

First Session: January
Characters:

Jamari Williams (Medic), Alex Fleming (Researcher), Kenji Kokan (Dispatcher), Mari Yamamoto (Generalist)

After drawing our first Epidemic on the first turn of the game, we managed to turn things around for a win. Black quickly turned into a problem disease, followed by blue, as black gave us our first outbreak (and all subsequent ones) and unstable city. Two Epidemics in, the black disease mutated to be drug-resistant and incurable, being dubbed COdA-403a (probably the closest Death Pox is ever going to get to a proper name now), acting as our major stumbling block of the session. We managed to cure the red disease fairly early on thanks to only drawing one red infection card while stocking up on red player cards early, meaning we also eradicated it when we cured it, dubbing it Crimsonitis. Our next step was to save up enough yellow to cure that disease while trying to keep COdA from overrunning everything (made more difficult by the need to spend two actions for every Treat Disease).

Placing our very first sticker on the board.

This left us with only the blue to cure, with things quickly spiraling out of control as cities became more infected (read: we had another Epidemic that left many cities on the brink of outbreak), and Kolkata reached Rioting status.

Kolkata is in trouble already.

With a lucky draw of three blue cards for our Generalist and a lineup of three more in blue in an easy row with an Event to build a research station as needed, we were able to keep just ahead of potential outbreak and cure the blue disease. Our thanks? The government cut our funding.

Our chosen upgrades were to give the Medic the ability to Treat Disease in adjacent cities, and make the red disease easier to cure in the future by allowing us to cure it without a research station.

---

Second Session: February
Characters:

Alex Fleming (Researcher), Cassandra Black (Scientist), Kenji Kokan (Dispatcher), Anjie Donovan (Quarantine Specialist)

With our funding cut, things were looking trickier. We opted to take the Government Grant and Forecaster events, though during the course of the game only the Grant came into use (placing a research station). We also uncovered a new ally, the Quarantine Specialist, and gained the ability to enact quarantines when needed, which was important as COdA mutated into its 403b variant which was untreatable (meaning we couldn't remove the cubes from the board).

It begins....

We decided to take the Scientist—Alex Fleming's coworker Cassandra Black—and the Quarantine Specialist—Kenji Kokan's cousin Anjie Donovan—in our team. We opened easily enough with a first-round cure of blue, which was eradicated not long after (naming it Sapphire Fever). Crimsonitis also saw a cure come into effect, followed by eradication, while Dr. Donovan worked valiantly to keep COdA-403b from overwhelming the world. While a few outbreaks occurred, increasing instability in a few cities, we didn't have the same problems with rioting like we had in Kolkata in January.

The Americas in trouble.

Finally, the month rounded out with a cure for our yellow disease, still unnamed, and a fairly low-key victory for February was achieved. Unfortunately this meant another cut in our funding due to being just too efficient, leaving us on our own.

Our two favorite events. Thanks to funding cuts, we don't get to play with them now.

Our chosen upgrades were to make Crimsonitis easier to cure by allowing us to cure it without spending an action, and to make our research station in Hong Kong permanent.

---

Third Session: March
Characters:

Jamari Williams (Medic), Alex Fleming (Researcher), Cassandra Black (Scientist), Anjie Donovan (Quarantine Specialist)

This month introduced us to the paramilitary involvement in our disease control efforts. We met a new ally, the Operations Expert, who we didn't take with us on this run, as well as the mechanic of building military bases, and were given additional optional objectives to aim for (eradicate one disease, or place a military base in each of the six world regions). We also had no funding whatsoever, thanks to the government's overwhelming confidence in our abilities. We opened again with a first turn epidemic, but were able to recover from that in order to continue our push to combat the diseases. Though Crimsonitis should have been easy to cure, the research just wasn't coming up, while Sapphire Fever was surprisingly easy to deal with. Strategic placement of quarantines throughout COdA's region kept it remarkably in check for most of the early game, allowing Dr. Black to assemble the necessary information with Dr. Fleming's assistance to clear out Sapphire Fever.

Mumbai in lockdown to keep outbreak at bay.

Meanwhile Crimsonitis started becoming a threat, constantly returning despite diligent efforts to treat it in the hopes of an easy eradication. Not long after curing Sapphire Fever, Dr. Fleming was able to get the necessary information to Dr. Williams for a cure for our unnamed yellow disease, which we dealt with shortly after, followed by finally curing Crimsonitis. That left crowd control on outbreak-risk cities until Dr. Williams was able to finish eradicating Sapphire Fever for our second objective of the month, and we suffered only two outbreaks due to the gamble of not placing quarantines in favor of disease clearing. Despite the government cutting our funding, we were still able to pull off the victory, and aside from Kolkata (still rioting at panic level 2), we have nothing worse than a few unstable cities on the board.

I'm sure things are only going to go downhill from here.

Making use of our nearly useless Kolkata card.

Our chosen upgrades were to remove the need for a research station to cure Sapphire Fever, and to place an unfunded event (the ability to discard cards to remove matching-color disease cubes) on our nearly-useless Kolkata city card.

At the end of March, our diseases looked something like this:

---

Unfortunately, at this point I discovered that we'd been playing the Quarantine Specialist a little overpowered, misreading one of her abilities. We'll discuss next time how to remedy this, and will proceed forward playing it correctly (and reading abilities and rules more thoroughly, to be sure).

Two places to look for prices are ebay, but make sure you are looking at completed sales to look for value, and allthingsheroscape.com, where you should take values with a grain of salt as they are a little high. Post stuff on heroscapers for 75% of allthingsheroscape pricing and it will likely go.
