[o]The Plan requires doing the Recon action in Shanghai however we let it's population drop to 0 at the end of our last game and no actions can be taken in a Forsaken city. We decided to ignore this rule in our game but but by the rules should we just have had to accept a loss for the first half of November?[/o]

Right, I am not just talking about getting rid of blind bid - but getting rid of the cards when bidding entirely.

Bidding in increments of 1 million and going up, open auction. Of course if it went to high this would mean that someone may handicap themselves out of the game (which is the main thing the cards help prevent) but other than that it would provide more control and less confusing card elements (do I have a color, do I have a high number, do I have a wild etc.) Then also once someone has a car they cannot bid on one, pass's are reauctioned at the end - and if someone ends up without a car, their strategy/loss on bets.

The Antique Armor and Shield tokens are on the top row.

Now it makes sense. They corrected the 2nd edition Tome to account for the new generic "item" tokens, but didn't think to update the Guide as well.

BTW, is there a fan "addendum" for all these issues?

That's the basic gist, but Indulgence is what is sometimes called a "variable contract" game, which means that what you are trying to accomplish (or more accurately, avoid) changes from round to round.

In Indulgence, the contracts ("Edicts") are things like "don't take any of the blue suit", "don't take any sixes", or "don't take the first or last tricks". The strategy can change depending on what the Edict is that round. For example, if you're trying to avoid taking cards of the blue suit, you might try to void your hand of another suit so you can rid yourself of your blue cards more quickly. If you're trying to avoid taking the last trick but you have a bunch of high cards in your hand, you might want to seize the lead during the middle of the round to rid yourself safely of your highest cards, and then try to throw away the lead when there are just a few tricks remaining. Things can get even harder if you choose to "sin" i.e. attempt to take all the forbidden cards.

This is the real appeal of Indulgence to me. Unlike games like Spades or Hearts, where you have the same goal round after round (leading to rather mechanical and monotonous card play) Indulgence keeps things fresh by forcing you to adapt your card play to a new contract every round.

And why you would be forced to lost 4 games in a row??? It is absolutely not needed.

That would be great news. So what do we do when there arent 3 goals that can still be completed?

I would say yes...

[o]it seemed pretty clear you were going to have to do something from that location - you probably should have used upgrade points to get it from 0 to 1. Doing this retroactively, while still against the rules, would have been better than just completely ignoring the fact it was Forsaken.[/o]

I would agree, Lose the first half, spend a couple of points and try again (exposure and all).

Wouldn't it take longer doing it that way? The auction part of the game is just an aside from the real racing.

This variant sounds like it will just drag out the auction part longer

About the mist...
[o]I don't get why the Indian ocean had the pink mist around it, but the reason it's missing is so that the route from Pearl to Jade has to go through all four colours - ie, you can't shortcut across the indian ocean.[/o]

Part of the reason I sold DCGP when Downforce was announced because of how much better the bidding was handled.

But as others have said, yes, you can certainly do it that way.

He says in another thread it happened in May. I'm curious as to how it happened myself. I suppose with, say, 4 wins and 4 losses from Jan to April it's possible to have connected done all recons available, connected all cities to the grid, and searched all cards.

Is this the case, Bazik? If so, I'd just call it a win when you build 3 supply centres. And I'd be interested to hear how you did it! In May, my fiancee and I still had two recons to go and 4 or 5 cities left to connect in Europe and the Americas.

I do like the secret, silent auction with simulataneous reveal.

I do not care for doing it with the cards you happen to be dealt. I think a some sort of cardboard tokens or bid cards would have worked better.

We aren't finished yet and I'm not sure how far in to the game we are. We have played 13 games (three players) and haven't explored past the Patmos/Arados lines.

Our scores currently stand at 220-190-174.

I'm not sure there is any differential that can't be overcome. The last game the winner scored 36 glory and beat the leader and 2nd by almost 20 pts.

Currently my group just finished Game #13 (Glory goal = 23).

However, we have only explored out to the Arados row and have five more rows to explore and then deal with whatever is discovered.

I'm guessing it will take more than 7 games and was wondering if anyone else has gone in to extra innings.

And to make it totally clear without spoilers, when you do manage to solve those secrets, it will be unambiguous. You will be given a Booke entry that tells you that you have discovered the secret and can claim the milestone. (So no need to guess further on those particular milestones!)

Having just found one finally tonight (as well as the actual locations of the silver and bronze statues--we've been busy), I can say that your statement is so very accurate. Thank you. It was indeed unambiguous when we uncovered the secret and triggered the milestone (causing me to accidentally end the game before winter, oops).
