Thread: Pandemic Legacy: Season 1:: Rules:: Sharing knowledge question

Are both players involved in the action considered to be "sharing knowledge " or is it just the player whose turn it is? For example, if a player has a condition that affects his ability to share knowledge, is someone able to share knowledge with him on there turn? Sorry I'm being vague but I'm trying to avoid spoilers.

The card references public society members. We're confused. Are public members those with the guild icons (everyone?), people with secret numbers (so we need to check every person?), or some other group of people?

PS. Fantastic game, probably our favorite game ever. So interesting and so much fun, twists and turns galore! Make MORE!!

Hi all. We had a very controversial end game win that we could not find governed in the rules. Without giving away what the exact wording of the template was, please let me know if anyone knows how to play out the following:

[o]When can a tablet be activated? A player used theirs prior to their turn, in order to get goods to their home harbor to buy a treasure at the very start of their turn. We looked through the rules and couldn't find anything governing when tablets can be activated, and the tablet itself doesn't indicate this.[/o]

The player was able to buy a treasure on his turn, interpreting that timing didn't matter, and because of this, won the game that turn with his additional glory gained. Please advise.

Share knowledge happens between both players, as an action on one of the players' turns. If the condition is satisfied, it doesn't matter which of the players is currently taking the turn.

For example, if the Researcher has a card that the Scientist needs, the Scientist can move to the Research and take any card from him (the Researcher's ability) on the Scientist's turn.

If that answer isn't enough, you can ask your specific question more directly using spoiler tags: enclose your text in [o!] And [/o!] (But without the exclamation marks) and it will appear in a box that will only be revealed if someone clicks on it:

[o]Like so![/o]

It sounds fine to me. If the things were intended to have restrictive timing I would expect there to be something about it on the cards or in the rules.

Hello Seafall owners,
so far I´m very happy and glad I got the stickers from the box 1 and 2.

Could you be so kind to send me also scans of the rest of the stickers?

Thank you very much!

@Everybody:
Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

I'm 13 games in, or something like that. I think the basic game system is kinda dull, but it's fun to play a game where you're learning/discovering things as you go. It's a unique experience and I like that.

My biggest issues with the game:

1. I don't think the "enmity" mechanic is well-balanced. It's so punitive that it keeps players from fighting very much. Which maybe is the intention, but if so I feel like there's a lot of wasted rules space covering some very rare stuff (at least in my group).

2. Too many advisors. We now probably have a 50+ advisor deck, which is pretty silly for a game that only runs a few years and where a lot of the advisors are now early-game dreck who just gum up the deck. There should be more advisor-culling, like the new astrolabe holder removes one of the advisors from the game permanently when you sweep the board in winter.

3. Games are too short. There's usually a cascade of milestone-achieving in the second year and the game is over. Each game hardly has a story arc at all, just a race to fulfill the best milestone and then top off glory totals.

4. There's some pretty significant lopsidedness in results. I don't think the risk/reward is balanced for several actions, most notably:
[o]
Finding a Tomb of the Ancients vs. exploring an open one[/o]

5. Maybe my biggest concern for the long run of legacy games is that there's no easy way to get timely rules feedback. You open up a box, and immediately you have a bunch of Qs. Without a well-managed FAQ which is broken up to be spoiler-free, you are probably going to play something wrong. And then it's done. We've already done it a few times.

I agree with this almost exactly. Although I haven't had that many rule problems. But we just opened box 4 and 5.

Sadly we may never play it again as two people Haye it. I think it's poorly designed. And the other guy is luke warm on it at best. After 7 actual games.

[o]Public Society Members are those with Numbers printed on their card. You still "interrogate" them to read their passage.[/o]

Iiinteresting...

I think I know what you're referring to in a spoiler-free way and it says "Share Knowledge", with capital letters.

To me, that specifically means "perform the Share Knowledge" action, rather than "participate in sharing knowledge". So it wouldn't pertain if someone else performed the Share Knowledge action to share with you.

That's my pedantic reading of the rules, but I'm aware it makes little thematic sense.

Possibly this one needs an official ruling!

Thanks for posting this and your interest in the game. This is a great opportunity for me to talk more philosophically about what we do. Based on your post, I'd say you're going to be 95% thrilled with what we are doing with the game. But there's probably going to be 5% that you wish were done differently. Just guessing here. And, of course, everyone's response is going to be different. For someone for whom the Pepper art was the raison d'etre of Dragonmaster, well, there's just nothing we can do about that.

Here's the thing: Whatever we do with the game won't copy or change your history with it and what it means to you. We want people to make new memories with Indulgence. For some this will be entirely new memories. For others, such as yourself, they will be another page in your "album" along side the others.

That's all we can do: Make a great game that does service to the original. But that's not something we're "settling" for. It is, in fact, our primary goal.

[o]I'm pretty sure most of the tablets are able to be activated at any time. at the very least it is certainly possible to activate one before buying treasure.[/o]

If you mean the thing behind Door 31, then I'd go the other way on that - that it applies any time you're on either end of a Share Knowledge action, much like the Researcher's ability.

I agree that makes complete sense. But I'm not convinced its what the thing actually says.

I can only hope my group and I will like it. We are still finishing up Pandemic Legacy. Expectations will be low at least which is better than too high.
