This seems correct to me as well, as it says "Wood provides a discount of 12" not "Wood(en) structures are discounted by 12".

This is one spoiler I was very glad to have heard ahead I time. Since I knew that the first leader I picked was going to be killed off at the end of the prologue, I just picked one I didn't care about and named them "Sharkbait."

Could you please tweak the subject line of this posting? It spoilers that Relationships arrive in January or February.

I agree it's poorly worded.

When I read it I initially thought it meant every Character card in the game but a bit of caution from another player had me wait until game 1 to verify.

Is it really though? The fact that they are on the character sheets when you open the box implied to me it was pretty obvious they would be available very soon.

Having the month of the spoiler and a vague title that is still specific is necessary for people to know what the thread is about and if it is relevant to them. I don't think there is any other way to word it.

While naming yellow, we stumbled onto a band theme:

Yellow - The Violent Phlegms
Red - The Flaming Lips
Black - The Beastie Boils

Thanks! Yeah, I own and really enjoy BatHotH, and have Widows Walk pre-ordered (won't ship to me until Robinson Crusoe is available). So I'm aware of the issues with the original but was a little concern with the onslaught of questions for the expansion. From the sounds of it it looks like we're par for the course on this one.

Well, I read "Destroy the leader cards. They are no longer in the game." as "Destroy the leader cards that aren't in the game."

So our group ended up destroying all the ones we weren't using. Even as we were doing it, in the back of my mind I was thinking, "How are we going to use the 'bring a new player into the game' rules if we happen to get a 5th player at some point?"

Then we did the first game, read the intro to that, realized what was happening, and it all clicked.

Right after we'd destroyed all the other leader cards.

Apparently, all of our descendants look remarkably like their ancestors.

Although I did have one other thought:

[o]What was the point of marking all the characters with province stickers before the prologue game if they're just going to be destroyed at the end of it? Were they not supposed to be destroyed, but rather put into the storage chest for some later game in the campaign? I don't have the game with me at the moment, so I can't look up the Captain's Booke to see exactly what the instructions were right now.[/o]

I'd recommend un-subbing from the SeaFall forum until you've played the game in full. I also use the "Next" button to go through subscriptions but (a) a message like this isn't going to convert everyone and (b) people may find endless spoiler tags (especially nested spoiler tags for replies) annoying when the fact there's a Spoiler is announced up-front in the subject (I certainly had someone comment that I didn't need spoiler tags when I asked a rules question in Pandemic: Legacy that had "Spoiler" in the subject line).

Simply speaking, going on forums for a game like this is a risk. I accidentally mildly spoiled something for myself by pressing Quote to reply to a comment from one of the dev team who had put something in a spoiler tag - but when you quote, you obviously get the full text shown between the tags. How much you can mitigate that risk, and how much you're willing to take, is up to you - but I think in this case, the best mitigation is simple unsubscription and manually checking the game page for non-spoiler new threads.

See, that would take me out from seeing pictures or any announcements.

As long as the main point in the first post is spoiled I think it's a fair balance. Once you're down a couple of posts you can assume anyone reading is comfortable with what was in the original post, so at that point you might only need to worry if it's something else that may be in the future. I completely agree a series of posts with spoilers is a PITA; I'm just talking about the first one for those of us that a) subscribe for general information and b) whip through our subscriptions in a batch.

This game has number boxes people will see in different order. If the first post is like the following it's easy for everyone to decide if they want to keep reading:
In box 123 we were wondering[o] if it mentions ABC?[/o]

Like I said, I'm not the boss of anything. Just a note that if you are going to the trouble of writing "Spoiler" in the subject you might as well use the actual spoiler tags for the first post or two as a further courtesy for those of use going through subscriptions.

The rulebook on page 11, under Enmity and Costs on an Island states:
Price at islands: When paying an island (for example, to buy goods), add one gold to the price for each enmity of yours on the island.

I haven't seen the rules for repairing at an Island, but if they refer to "paying the island", I would expect the rule above to apply, even if the repair action isn't specifically called out.

Anyone planning on making an insert for the base game and expansion to fit in the base game box? Right now I have the tokens in bags and I'm thinking of making something to keep the tiles in place to help prevent warping.

What are other people's ideas?

We probably had the best round of Pandemic Legacy EVER.

Our CodA was Red. We played almost every game with the Dispatcher, Researcer, Medic, and Quarantine Specialist (until they went traitor and we switched to Soldier).

Obvi we went 12-0. We used the perfect win bonuses every time and by round 6 we had all disease bonuses. We had no scars.

Although we had a lot of cities that were unstable, only 2 had rioted by the end of the game. We made a point of immediately quarantining unstable cities with any risk of outbreak.

We did have a couple of close calls, but we got lucky on the draws.

We had used all equipment cards by the end of the game, and our soldier was able to pick them up at will, so the last round was pretty boring. We had already vaccinated all but a couple of the CodA before the final round so we just sat in Atlanta the whole time and picked up cards. Anti-climactic if you ask me. The whole game was really really really easy for us. But I can understand how you guys could have some trouble if you had a rough start.

We never bothered with roadblocks or even building research stations the entire game. We thought we would lose them as the game progressed (even though we wouldn't have because we were awesome).

Overall, we did well. Better than you... probably.

"Rules question (spoilers for start of February)" would be my preference.

You've seen the bit in the rulebook which says "In later games, it is possible for cities to become isolated so that outbreaks in it do not affect any adjacent cities. In this case..." - would you thank me for telling you which month that appears? Someone who's not yet encountered relationships will probably feel the same about those.

You can also block the Rules forum while subscribing to the other forums.

Pointing out something better that people can do has never been a particularly effective way to get them to do it. Especially on a website with thousands of users most of whom pop in when they want to post something and aren't even reading your requests.

You may not have needed to cure diseases to win in December, but you still had to avoid outbreaks. How on earth did you manage that if you were sitting in Atlanta the whole time?

You've either done really impressively well, or overlooked some really important rule. (-8

So the entire rules section of this game should be threads all titled "Rules question (spoilers for MONTH)"? How would anyone find anything? Every month has several new things a thread could be about.

We made the same mistake as well for several months and it would also have made a significant difference for us, given how close our losses were most of the time.

It's stated clearly in the rules; I'll just blame myself for glossing over it because of my prior familiarity with base Pandemic. :)

Agreed.
The Efficient drops the restriction regarding which good can be used to provide a discount for a particular building. The Carpenter increases the discount when using a particular good. Combining the two allows you to use any good for a discount of 8 regardless of building type, and increases the discount to 12 if you choose to use wood.
