You said it yourself. "When the Dispatcher moves a player's pawns as if it were his own."

The Dispatcher has two abilities. One is to "reunite" (I like "teleport", but that's less thematic.) The other is to "Move any pawn as if it were his own."

You can clearly eliminate A entirely. If A is correct, it is errata and an error in the rulebook.

This makes a lot of sense. I think A is excluded. I think the best answer is probably C.

C would also be the correct answer in case of an airlift, I would think.

Erik,

I actually wrote my post originally calling it "teleport", then decided to change it to "reunite". :meeple:

I have received a tweet from Matt that appears to confirm that answer A can be eliminated:

only when you move them "as if they were your own." (it's that phrase that trips the condition)

So that leaves B and C.

If B, it would imply that scars and upgrades that say "you enter" or "you leave" a city only apply when taking "standard actions" (e.g. drive/ferry, direct/charter/shuttle flight, or the equivalent actions when performed by the dispatcher "as if they were your own").

For a "special action" (such as Dispatcher teleport/reunite, or an event card), then no enter/leave "action" gets registered and no scars or upgrades apply.

If it is C, then the original pawn's scars/upgrades apply, and I assume the original pawn's owner would need to discard any necessary cards?

I just thought of one other possible interpretation:

D: based on the "you" in "you enter" or "you leave"
If you are the person that plays the Airlift card on yourself, then "you" would be entering or leaving, and would need to pay any appropriate scar penalty.

If someone else plays Airlift on you, then "you" didn't trigger the enter or leave, so no scars/upgrades apply (Airlift player's scars/upgrades don't either, since no rule says they should).

Similarly, if Dispatcher moves his own pawn to "teleport"/"reunite" to another city, then his own scars/upgrades would apply ("you enter", "you leave"), but if teleporting someone else's pawn, then no scars/upgrades get triggered (other player doesn't trigger the "you", and from A) being ruled out, the Dispatcher's scars/upgrades do not apply).

I don't know if we'll get any further clarification from Matt / Rob, and I hate to bug them -- I know they are busy prepping Season 2 and other projects! :meeple:

Legacy game development is apparently a real pain. This is currently TBD, same thing happened to Seafall.

To b honest, I always assumed B until this thread. I kinda like D now, though!

Teleports unite!

Just saw this in the Apocrypha update.

That's crazy. A game that nobody wanted on release, was in the $10 discount bin all over just to unload it. Then people bought it at the cheaper pirce and said "Hey this is actually fun." Which made the secondary market skyrocket high enough that the game got a second printing. And now a 2ndedition/expansion?

Here's hoping for new components, so the house on the hill can look multi-leveled like Mystery Mansion.

Looks like C (or maybe D, but probably C).

In response to:

"Related Q: Airlift event triggering Germaphobic or Regretful scars?"

Matt replied:

Sure. Whenever you enter/leave (regardless of how) those scars have their effect.

I think we can put together those two responses to extrapolate that the same thing would apply when the Dispatcher "teleports" a pawn that has one of those scars (but clearly not when the Dispatcher moves a pawn "as if it was his own", unless the Dispatcher was the one with the scar).

Still a slight possibility that I am misinterpreting the "you enter/leave", such that D could be correct, but I would tend to assume that unless the special rule regarding Dispatcher scars/upgrades has kicked in (for non-teleport movement), then "regardless of how" covers everything (Airlift by you or anyone else, teleport, etc), so scenario C applies, and the owner of the pawn being moved would need to discard cards to fulfill the scar, in order for that action to be legally completed.

And likely, the same thing could be extrapolated to any other similar scenarios (see linked spoiler threads for details).

Not just a Legacy game, but an Echo System game too. So not only does any change to a late stage of the game have to be checked to ensure that it doesn't affect earlier stages (and vice versa), but the impact on later games in the series has to be checked (that's if that/those later games even exist). This may turn out to be too large a task to handle.

Hopefully this is an OK thread to pose this question. Can you simply discard a card whenever you'd like? Or can you only discard a card when you've hit the hand limit?

We've been playing the second way but any edge helps!

I always assumed the two small circles were intended to be used for scars, so that no matter what direction Alien Island was oriented in there would be a designated place to put them without obscuring anything.

Was this not actually clever graphic design and just a happy accident?

No, you can't just discard a card whenever you like. You have to engineer some kind of pretext.

Was it not on one of the earlier card(maybe March-April) that there would be other teams in the field? I seem to remember it when we start going the military route. I do feel the Bravo Team was clunky. But not a game breaker.

You discard a card when something tells you to discard a card - that could be hand limit, finding a cure, building a structure, taking a direct or charter flight, using an Event (Funded or Unfunded), driving/ferrying into a collapsing or fallen city, or various things that come up during the campaign. It's not something you can just do on a whim, but it's not hard to come up with ways to do it.
