After our 5th game we probably won't be playing anymore together because of one decision. So of course I am wondering how other people think. Our problem is in spoiler box so don’t read if you haven’t played the game. You need to know that we had very frustrating 3 games. We won January, and lost 3 next games. First lost after only 3 epidemy cards just before I was about to build third center. Second after 2 epidemy cards… just before I was about to build third center!!! And third game lost after 2 epidemy cards. In every game we lost because we had to add 8th green cube.
Before our second game in march we were very frustrated, we thought maybe something is wrong with polish translation or the game is broken in some way. I read the internet forums, and we changed our tactics. Group of 3 – me, my wife and her 14yo nephew.
Spoiler from march and our problem:
[o]After 3 epidemy cards we could have win. We had 3 centers, 2 new cities and 1 search completed. It was nephews turn and he could search in Denver (thus ending the game) but me and my wife thought that discovering south America is more important (one of the cards said that it should be our priority). We had no green cubes at the moment on board, we calculated everything and we knew that no matter what we will get 7 green cubes max after 6 turns. It was possible for us to win in those 6 turns because we only needed 1 yellow card to discover south America. We persuaded nephew to do other things than searching and…
We didn’t get 1 yellow card those 6 turns and what’s worse – in our calculation we forgot that after 5th epidemy card we will have to draw 4 infection cards not 3 and that’s how we lost.[/o]
Nephew got angry and started shouting, my wife got even angrier at him and I just sit here and wonder who was right and who was wrong? Should we take easy win whenever it is possible or should we try to achieve as much as possible. Of course if they ever change their minds and will be willing to play together.
