Alright, first up we have Fireball Island: The Curse of Vul-Kar. We've only played this a couple of times since we have gotten it, but it is always a great time. So much trash talking and marble-rolling mayhem! I do have an issue where one of my ember marble spots has a side that is just... not high enough or something, and the slightly little jiggle of the board or table will send it careening down the island, but apart from that the game is just splendid! I can't wait for Fireball Island: The Curse of Vul-Kar – Spider Springs to come out!

Spirits of the Forest is such a relaxing game, good lord. We throw on some nice, zen, foresty music in the background, and get lost in a chill, albeit very competitive half hour. I'm so glad I sprung for the fancy schmancy version of the game, because those wooden tiles are just lovely.

I have a lot of emotional attachment to Railways of Europe. I'll spare you all of the icky details, but let's just say that, even if this series of games wasn't amazing to play, it would still be my favorite. Luckily, the series is amazingly good, and I think that Railways of Europe is the best. I actually had the original version of the game, back when it was just Rails of Europe, but it ended up moving across country with a friend of mine. Fortunately, I now own it again, and I couldn't be happier. This is honestly my favorite game of all time, and I am on a quest to own every expansion and version of the game out there.

Much like the last time I played Western Legends, I immediately tried to take the outlaw route, going for wanted points in an attempt to quickly slide past my do-gooder opponents. Unfortunately, right from the get go I was a target, and it seemed like I could never get myself where I wanted to be on the track... which is to say that I wasn't on the wanted track at all. Unfortunately this lost me the game, but I had a good time making life difficult for my enemies. >:3

We are still rocking just two of our three non-starter decks in KeyForge: Call of the Archons, and we are really starting to find a stride with them. I'm still pretty certain my current deck is not a good match against the other deck being used, but I am definitely winning more now than I was before, so maybe I just learned how to play it correctly. I do want to snag some more decks at some point to try out. We'll see how it goes!

Okay, I mentioned in last week's review I mentioned a massively fun game of Colosseum, and here it is. The last few times we have played this game, I've won. I've not won by a little, or crawled by; I've spent all 4 turns in last place, hovering around 15-20 points, and then in my final turn I blow past everyone to get into the 90s. It's very lovely! However, my friends didn't want this to happen this time around. I played my normal strategy of keeping myself in last place, getting just enough money to do what I need, so I can steal the pieces I want from my opponents, and about halfway through they decided they weren't going to let this happen again. I had been saving asset tokens for the event I needed, while trying to keep myself open to another event in case someone took the one I wanted, and after going through the list multiple times, my friends figured out what event I was aiming for. They were faced with a choice; buy the event, even though it wasn't something they would have a lot of use putting on, or let me have it and guarantee my win. Turns started taking ages, and there was so much banter and trash talking going around the table (Colosseum seems to be very good at causing that sort of thing, and I think it's lovely). At one point I even started getting pieces that I didn't need, just to throw everyone off, but unfortunately it didn't work. They bought the event I wanted, and I was forced to go to a backup, which wasn't going to get me nearly as many points. In the end, I didn't win, but despite that setback I still only managed to lose by 3 points. It was one of the most intense games of Colosseum that we've played, and it took us over two hours to get through it, which is usually unheard of when we play. A+ stuff!

It had been a while since I've played Imperial Settlers, but I do really enjoy the game. I don't know why we don't play it more, but what can you do. Too many games, not enough time I guess! I will say that despite the fact that I enjoy it, I really, really suck at it. Like... really suck at it. The winning score almost doubled mine, so I really need to sort out a strategy for this game next time I play it.

There you have it, this week in the books! Like I said, it's a pretty slow week, and the next weekly update won't be much different, but we should be back to running full steam soon. Darn adult responsibilities keep getting in the way of our fun. :<

Until next time!
