Look at the thickness of your average boardgame box. The cardboard here is much thinner. Also there are folds on the sides (like you would get with a gift box you pick up at the store). This lessens the rigidity of the box. Again, I don’t play with the box so I don’t much care. However given the flex in the bow and the nature of the vacuum formed trays, I would not put anything on top of it.
How about this. Of all the board games I own (and since I have a Platinum BGG collection badge, so that is a lot) I have only two other games with boxes that have the same or lower levels of sturdiness (at least I my perception).
