Hmm, this is an interesting thread to read.

Personally, I think the might roll can occur anywhere in the house. It isn't explained exactly what the spaceship is or what you are doing, so nothing suggests you need to be in it other than assumption. You could be breaking fuel lines or supports or circuitry that is running throughout the house. I believe it would specifically say perform the Might Roll in the spaceship if that was the intention. Additionally, the Survivor Tome itself says to spread out, which cannot happen if you are all in the same place. I also believe you cannot use a weapon or the like to improve a Might Roll if it isn't an actual attack.

As for balance, you gotta give this another go! Every haunt is unique, even if you have done it before. If fate gives you a bad hand, then it is up to you to play with it. You could play it again and everyone could have had their might upgraded and then you smash the alien. That's part of the fun of this game. Maybe it isn't for everyone, but this is part of the point...you don't know what you are preparing for and sometimes you get screwed. And it makes a memory and you laugh about it.

Here is what happened to us: playing with four, so four Might Rolls of 5+. We performed might rolls anywhere in the house, no weapons. First turn, I won the might roll...one down. Mark failed miserably. Michelle won. Alien's turn...successful mind control on Mark. My turn, I snapped him out of it and won my might roll using the Lucky Stone. Three down. Mark and Michelle failed might rolls. I am taken over. Alien moves me to within one space of ship. Mark tries to snap me out of it, loses and fails Might Roll. Michelle fails Might Roll. Alien kills Mark. Alien moves me into the ship, and I'll be lost at the start of my next turn. Now it comes down to one roll. Michelle has one shot to get this might roll together before the alien, in one round, has defeated 2/3 of us. Then it would have been murder rampage on alien's turn. Michelle wins her roll by rolling exactly a 5. Game over, heroes survive. One died, one about to be knocked out of the game, and the third was going to be consumed more than likely. It was an awesome game.

Sound like fun? It was, and that's Betrayal. It might be hard but don't judge it on one haunt. It is a horror story, the good guys sometimes don't make it. Like we learn in Star Trek...sometimes there are no win situations. But your response to it can be just as fun as winning.
