I'd really avoid 5. We had 3 and loved it. One person is a great rules reader and interpreter and even then we still argued a couple times on exactly how we would play something. With 5 that's 2 more people to work through to get consensus. Plus with 5 that's that many more people you have to hope like and can endure the game. I'd hate for you to lose one person 3 games in.Yet if you all get along don't mind some longer games and can generally agree on some consensus items you'll be ok. Remeber not to get too down on a leader running away with the game. I came back to win from a leader who seemed quite insurmountable (he'll never live it down). Since I won I'm going to just go ahead and say we interpreted all the rules "completely correct".
