Heroscape made a bunch of Dungeons and Dragons style minis at end of production, so if you are looking to become familiar with LOTR adaption figures I would recommend getting those official units first. Not only will they help you understand how fantasy combat works in Heroscape but since they were the last to be produced I've found them to be among the least expensive to purchase in the aftermarket sell sites.There's also some great dungeon delve scenarios at heroscapers you could set up and run witha friend to get you started. Since heroscaping has become pricey I would see if the system is your cup of tea before you make a heavy investment.
