I like the deck a lot.

I imagine that he's a little weak because he's a single fighter with no sidekicks/meatshields, he's melee, and use of the Necronomicon is costly over long term.

Compare with him with Dr Strange, who damages himself for free card draw and recursion (and has healing effects) and you see why. (I mean, Strange is very powerful. He has ranged attacks and a sidekick as well.)

I think you want to make the Necronomicon a little more juicy.
Maybe:
Do 1 dmg and choose 1 of the following:
-Do X dmg to yourself, draw X+1 cards
-Alhazred is ranged for the rest of the turn, gain one action
-Place Alhazred in any unoccupied space

For the first effect, the more he delves into mysteries, the more power he gets, but it costs his sanity. Maybe the numbers can be tweaked, but I like the idea of drawing like 3 or 4 cards (very powerful effect) but having to damage yourself by 3 or 4 dmg (which is a big deal). I'd probably be willing to do 2 damage (1 from the initial effect, 1 for X) to draw 3 cards, but I wouldn't do it so often. (Particularly because of max hand size.)

For the second effect (the way you wrote it) is the ranged attack a free action? Because I just made him ranged and he gets an action.

He may also be a little bit stronger if from "Which Can Eternal Lie" gives him 2 health.

It helps him either mitigate the effects of spamming the Necronomicon a little bit better (so he can be an aggro fighter) and it always gives him a little defensive oomph. He has some decent blocks in the form of Elder Sign and Mad Poet of Sanaa, but he won't stand up to aggression for very long, particularly if he keeps hurting himself like the T Rex. (And with my draw effect, he's likely to hurt himself.)
