I don't recall exactly how you get that unrationed event, but most likely it's because it's possible to obtain without ending the game? For example if it's the result of doing recon into a new region, if that was the first objective you completed then you'd still have a second objective to complete (the three supply centres).↧

Arthur is undefeated at our house!
I haven't played all the sets, but from what I can tell, they all have their virtues, so where to go from Cobble & Fog is going to be a matter of personal taste and which fighters most pique your interest.

Thanks all! I think the order was throwing me off the most. I feel like it should come before the draw 9 cards step to set up the agents.↧

Did you back the CMON comics Kickstarter? It comes with some different cultist varieties that, while I haven't had the chance to use them yet, I feel like could add some difficulty and variety to the base game.
I was tempted, but I waffled back and forth until it was too late. So I don’t have any of that content.
I also waffled and then ended up in with slight regret. Now that it arrived, I'm happy I got it. The minis and cards are nice enough (always good for variety) and the comic book was surprisingly enjoyable. Many more call outs and sly references to the original KS than I expected.

by Ghotimonger
Two Betrayal spinoffs might work:▪️ The general consensus is that Betrayal at Baldur's Gate has much clearer and better balanced scenarios. More of a fantasy adventure theme, obviously.
▪️ Betrayal Legacy streamlines the rules and features a smaller selection of much better haunts. As a Legacy game, you'll be adding stickers to various cards and faction sheets and making choices that permanently alter/destroy components throughout a 10-game campaign. Once the campaign is over, you can play it as a non-Legacy game to experience the haunts you missed. Main drawback is that it's best with a mostly-consistent group of at least 4 players.
Broadly speaking, Battlestar Galactica shares a lot of aspects with BaHotH: An initial mostly co-op phase, a crisis point where someone who thinks they're a goodie might suddenly discover they're a traitor, and a sort of endgame where revealed traitors/cylons get their own set of actions and gameplay. Currently out of print, but it's being tweaked and reskinned as the Cthulhu-themed Unfathomable. I'd describe it as "heavy", though nowhere near as heavy as Nemesis.
Other non-traitor games with a Spooky Mansion vibe:
▪️ Mysterium and Paranormal Detectives are different implementations of the same theme — a seance in a haunted mansion where a ghost player tries to convey details of their murder to the other "psychic" players. Mysterium is a lavish Dixit-like co-op experience. Paranormal Detectives is a competitive scenario-based game.
▪️ The classic Kill Doctor Lucky (look for the 19.5 Anniversary version) has players stalk the eponymous Doctor Lucky through his mansion, hoping to murder him with no witnesses. The expansion board Doctor Lucky's Mansion That Is Haunted casts players as murderous ghosts who can float through walls.

Thread: Betrayal at House on the Hill:: Rules:: Questions after first playthrough
by Mcdermott13
Overall, a really fun game. I liked the flow and thought it was a fun time. A few questions arose I would like to get cleared up.1) One of the monsters to rolled for speed which was supposed to be halved. If we rolled 7 should we round up or down?
2) can you only use one item per turn? Could I use the rope, then try the puzzle box, then attack with spear?
3) can you end your turn in the mystic elevator?
4)I know you can't die before the haunt but if you were supposed to go to the skull is there any penalty? (other trait drops) or just nothing happens?
Thanks for any help!

All dice rolls are rounded down.

Each item can be actioned once each turn. That action might be to pick up something, use something else, and trade something else to a player.
Mcdermott13 wrote:

Yes you can. Just know that that whenever someone enters the elevator the dice must be rolled.

You just go to the value directly above the skull.

If rounding is required after a roll, the haunt description will tell you which way to round it.
(If you played Jeremy Lennert's "An Offering of Blood", you simply roll half as many dice for half-speed monsters, instead of dividing a full-speed roll in half.)
Mcdermott13 wrote:

Generally speaking, you can use multiple items on your turn, but may do only one thing with each item. The exact rules are explained in the rulebook under "Use Item and Omen Cards".
Mcdermott13 wrote:

Yes.

Before the haunt begins, if an effect would cause you to lower a trait to the skull symbol, simply leave the trait on the lowest number above the skull.
However, keep in mind that damage is split between two traits (for example, Might and/or Speed for physical damage) as you see fit. The rules aren't entirely clear on whether you can assign excess damage to the lower trait without reducing the higher one, and thereby ignore damage. My preferred interpretation is you must assign damage if you can; i.e. you can't ignore damage until both traits have been lowered as far as possible.
