Tournament UpdateAfter the second round:
:d10-4: points - 16 people
:d10-3: points - 10 people (<- me)
:d10-2: points - 24 people
-------------------------- (cut off)
:d10-1: points - 11 people
:d10-0: points - 3 people
After 2 matches, I still find myself in the upper half of competitors. With 64 entries, though, it is going to be very hard to make the final 8. If my math is correct, 10 points will be required to make it to the knockout stage. One person will have 12 points for sure. Six people will be guaranteed 10 points. Just one person with 4 wins will need to lose 2 games 2-1 to make 10 be the magic number. With 3 points, I am on pace to get 9, just out of the running.
In the most interesting match of the week, Darthcauley will be facing his daughter, Penguinpup9!
Pick/BanMy opponent this week would be Sidious256. Sidious had won 1 game and lost 1 game, both by the score of 2-1. He got the first pick and went with Medusa. I countered with Bigfoot. He chose Muldoon and I went with Sherlock Holmes. He then went for Robin Hood, who I had hoped to pick. This is where I faltered.
A couple of weeks ago, I interviewed
Prospero, the defending champion. He gave the advice to pick heroes you are comfortable with, as opposed to just looking at the stats. I didn't follow this advice, since I picked Beowulf as my third pick. Statistically, he does well against Muldoon and Robin Hood, but I am not as comfortable with him.
Sidious banned Sherlock, and I banned Medusa. On to the matches!
Game 1I chose the Bigfoot to go first, while Sidious chose Muldoon. I picked Sarpedon since I've played on this match several times in this tournament. Maybe it would be some home field advantage! Bigfoot charged in right away and killed an Ingen worker. Another worker took a shot at Bigfoot, but he dodged it and approached Muldoon. Muldoon expected some Savagery and defended with a feint. Bigfoot was Larger than Life, though, and dropped Muldoon to 10 life early! This health advantage would end up being very important as the game went on. The Jackalope was able to run in and hit Muldoon with his horns a couple of times. The Jackalope continued to be a pain. Another worker fell and then Bigfoot and the Jackalope were able to pin Muldoon and the remaining worker. Muldoon was able to Leap Away from the danger and went on the run. As the game continued, Bigfoot was low on cards, but Muldoon was low on health. Bigfoot started hitting traps on purpose since he couldn't get close to Muldoon. This got Muldoon low on cards, too, and he eventually fell from exhaustion. Game 1 was mine!

Game 2Game 2 saw Beowulf face off against Muldoon in the Yukon. Things started off well again as Beowulf built up some rage. Muldoon played They Should All be Destroyed, but Beowulf was the Equal of Grendel. Both sides took a lot of damage. As the match progressed, Beowulf held on to a slim health margin, but struggled to get close to Muldoon. His workers and traps were keeping Beowulf at bay. I was then struggling with my card draw. Beowulf does not have a lot of defense, and this was hurting me. I got shot with an undefended 5 point attack, Shoot Her!. I really thought he was trying to draw out another Grendel, so I had let it go. I was hoping it was going to be a regroup. Muldoon was using the map to his advantage, but he did not know how low on defenses I was. I was able to get him down to 3 life with another Grendel card, but it wasn't enough. I had lost my third one on a random discard earlier and was now defenseless. A few turns later and Beowulf was down.
Game 3Game 3 would be Beowulf versus Robin Hood at the Bronze. This was my most disappointing game of the tournament so far. I was extremely low on defenses. I got hit with a Hunter's Eye and a Disarming Shot, both undefended. Beowulf was quickly down to 8 health. Robin used his ability well, staying out of reach. The only way I would be able to attack is to leave myself defenseless next to him after an attack. I tried to run and build up some cards, but the Outlaws were able to catch me and eventually finished me off with a highway robbery.
Tonight was more frustrating than the weeks prior. I should have stuck to a fighter I was comfortable with. Sidious256 was a great competitor, and probably would have beaten me anyways, but I might have been able to put up more of a fight! Now, with my back to the wall, I think I will need to win my final 3 matches to have a chance to move on!
