You know, as simple and silly as the game is, I've seen a wide variety of experiences with the game already, and there is still a lot more choice (not deep choice, but still choice) than you are giving it credit for.

Right from the start, you have 4 paths to try to go down - you can move toward Skull Beach (and the Honey Pots if you're using the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Bees expansion), you can move toward Boat Run (and the Golden Idol if you're using the Last Adventurer expansion), you can move toward Vul-Kar and try to either claim the Heart or run along the front for the snapshot there, or you can try jumping into a cave to try to get to the other side of the island fast - or to jump over to the Crimson Cutlass to collect the snapshot and Cursed Emeralds there for some late-game movement options as well as a better barrier against getting knocked down.

You also need to consider your exit strategy, and think about how you're going to escape. Because you get two turns to escape, you're not going to have a lot of movement to escape with, generally 16 spaces. Do you try to grab some extra treasures along the way and hope for the caves to send you to the right place, or do you take the most direct path, but risk not having enough movement to escape?

Again, this is a very light game, so you're not going to have a fun experience if you try to crunch out your best move every turn, but there's enough there to keep it fun, especially when playing with others of like mind. It's a beer and pretzels game, and not ashamed of it.

So, at the end of our third chapter, [o]we were told to destroy the Salon tile and replace it with one of two tiles on a plank, burying the other tile in the box.[/o] Since the tile we buried wasn't destroyed, does it come back in use in Free Play mode, or is it permanently out of the game? I'm not sure what the difference between "buried" and "destroyed" is, in this case...

Same here; we played the prologue a few days ago and loved it. One of the most fun sessions of any game I've played in a long time.

[o]I'm curious how it changed with just 3 players; my group had 5, and it turned out no one was the traitor, so I dunno if that changes with fewer players.[/o]

[o]Nope never a traitor - it was amazing in our 5 player game. I decided to run away from the group to start so my wife thought I was the traitor and she shot the poor little 5 year old girl in the back with a crossbow.
Although shame on my family for sending a 5 year old girl to investigate this old house.

Also the first player to die tried attacking someone and got destroyed and got 1 shot. They got to read the card saying there was no witch and just sat there and smirked at us[/o]

You'll be told when to remove it. Page 6:

BACK IN BOX AND THE TOMB
If you are told to return a game component to the box, it will not be part of the current game but should return to use in the next game. For example, you may be told to return an Item card to the box. That Item is gone for this game. At the end of the game, put it back into the Item deck.

The Tomb is where you store cards that will remain out of play until you are told to return them. In some cases, this may be after you have finished the campaign or it may be the next game. When you are told to put something in the Tomb, put it under the tray in the game box.

Thanks guys! I think what was tripping me up was the Move 4 card with the text "You may grab all treasures from slabs when moving (instead of picking just one". But after reading your responses, I assume this text refers to the slabs that have 3 treasures for one space, you can take all 3 instead of just one.

Some of the markings on the board are hard to decipher since some of the printing doesn't match up to the mold. I don't know how it is between each player's boards. Mine worse on the beach side. Or more accurate on the Scar is more positive way to say it. But with some Q&A here I figured it out. Overall I'm pleased with it. It is an adventure for adult gamers to figure out the spaces on the board lol

The treasure slabs that qualify as having more than one treasure that can be picked up with the Move 4 card are the ones whose round plastic molds are open between them to form a single slab:

Scar side

• Lower left corner slab with 2 treasures

• Upper left side slab with 3

V-K Summit

• Top left slab with 2 (the other two slabs in that passage are separate with 1 apiece)

• In front of V-K one slab with 2

Beach side

• Lower right corner two slabs with 2 treasures each

• Upper right corner one slab with 2 (it looks like it could be 3 because at least on my board it looks like the treasure triangle art is across all three but there is foilage in between)

The question we kept coming across was: Is the Heart of Vulkar a treasure?

That is, if you get knocked down and the only thing you have is the Heart, do you have to give up the Heart? Our reading of the rules was that the only way to get the Heart from someone else was to pass them -- that's it's not the same as the "treasures".

(I don't have the rulebook with me but) I think the game term "bury" says to place the card on the bottom of the deck during a game.

I believe it was clarified in another thread that the Heart IS a treasure, so can be lost when knocked down.

I think this is right...

If you pass a player with all treasure types and you played:

- a normal move, then they have to give you Heart of Vulkar.

- a move that lets you steal treasures, they can choose to give you any type of treasure.

I think this isn't quite right. If you're using a move that lets you steal a treasure, they give you the Heart and any other treasure they choose. That's my understanding, anyway.

That is my understanding as well.

That is correct. Obstacles stack. So one token and two opponents on a tile would cost four (three extra) moves to leave that tile.

However, as noted above, as long as you have moves to spend, you can always leave the tile where you started your turn, no matter how many obstacles.

(These rules are the same as the original Betrayal, just codified into the term "obstacles".)

And my group assumes that a tile with the text “make a speed roll of 3+ if you fail stop moving” would be separate from the obstacle rules of you can always move 1 from your starting tile.

In the unlikely event you were in such a room, with 3 or 4 obstacles and you are not the traitor; then you would have to succeed at the roll on the tile to move your minimum 1 move.

(We have not encountered this situation or a tile that would make this possible yet, but it is my understanding from playing several games of betrayal.)

11/13 - Received first email that my shipping label was created. Should arrive 11/15

11/18 - Still no change in my status, the label was created and no shipment was ever sent

11/19 - Sent email to QM about my package and found out that it was in a group of backers where the label was created but the package wasn't sent out. I would see a new shipping notification shortly

11/23 - Reached back out to QM as there had not been any change in the last 4 days.

11/25 - Was told again that my shipment would be sent out soon

11/26 - Received an updated tracking number saying that the label has been created

11/27 - Still no movement on the package since the label was created. Looks like we are back to step 1.

That's a fairly bold claim.

Also, if you're mainly trying to satisfy a 6 year old, aren't there much cheaper and less shelf-consuming ways to do that in this industry? Wasn't the KS for this game over $100?

Thank you Brian! This is exactly the info I needed and not some dry response about player counts. Thanks again.

I don't have an official answer on this one because it is a weird timing issue. If the action card triggers first, they could choose to give you the Heart, in which case they wouldn't have the Heart to trigger from the hopping over. That's how I would rule it since the action card is played first, it triggers first.

I don't even have to wait 6 years. I even said in my review: my three year old loves it now. Then again, he also loves Candyland.

Currently around $75 CAD or so.
Clearly you don't have children if you balk at $100 for several weeks, months, years of entertainment.

For example, I can get my kid 3 'Ready-to-Robot' 2-packs for $100CAD. And that will provide about a week's worth of entertainment time, if I'm lucky.
And that's 50% of what you get being a blind-buy, and possible repeats.

So, yeah it's a bold claim.
But if you have kids around 6-10, it's not that much money. Especially compared to any video game system.

Kids will shift your perspective about what's expensive and what's not.

I got an initial FedEx notification that my package was to be delivered today. I made plans for someone to be home to accept the delivery. last night I received a notice that my package was delivered mid-day yesterday. no package was seen by my family. I filed a claim with FedEx. How screwed am I?
