This is probably obvious but do you clear the board of any existing Quarantine Markers at the end of a game or do they carry over into the next game? Pretty sure they need to be cleared right?

Page 3 of the rulebook has a section on "what stays and what gets reset". Quarantine markers are not in any of the categories listed as permanent.

The rulebook is, indeed, clear about this.

But if you want a rule of thumb: even if you're actually continuing straight on into another play, imagine you weren't. Any state which gets destroyed by putting the game back in the box then unpacking it again isn't permanent.

We also found Local Connections and Pilot key--put them both on Medic and used him for every single game in our 3-player game, while we rotated the other characters periodically by situation.

Risk / Reward?

*There are NO spoilers in this post*

We had our second run at Pandemic Legacy: Season 1 on Friday evening (January) and this time we just managed to win; it was very close and tense! We found that it highlighted some interesting differences in play style, or game tendencies perhaps, between the four of us.

One of the most brilliant things about all the games in the Pandemic"series" is the balancing of risk and reward. This does come over in many other games as well, particularly co-ops, but none to my mind do it so well as Pandemic does.

drowning in cubes - this is the overriding sensation of playing this game!

In life I tend to be a much more risk averse person but in games, and this one in particular, I am taking a much more cavalier attitude. I'm always thinking about moving forward for the goal(s) and prepared to leave cities with cubes on to do something that progresses the opportunity to find cures.

Mrs B never wants to see cities with 3 cubes on and prioritises the "firefighting" over all else. In life she is a little more carefree than I am (but not greatly so) but in her gaming she is always very methodical and careful - IE; in Agricola she wants her food requirements sorted first and will leave other resources (even tempting large stacks) to grab the day labourer (for example) and ensure there will be no begging.

Billy is quite reckless in his life and prepared to just give things a go, and usually he's that way in his gaming as well, but this game is making him very cautious indeed, which is really interesting. He is very worried about outbreaks in particular and always wants to be taking cubes off the board and thinking about where the cities that will come back up in the infection deck are. He gets quite cross indeed with me and my "I'm leaving that area to swap this card so that we can find a cure" moves.

Charlie is quite laid back and prepared to give things a go in life, and typically "just plays" in his gaming. In this game he is currently taking more of a back seat and asking others what he should do but ultimately will just "do his thing" if he gets conflicting advice from the rest of us.

It's very interesting that this game of Pandemic Legacy is not only bringing out strong traits in each of us, but is actually altering our normal behaviours and risk / reward balance.
I, personally, want to "win" this game and am much more willing to take risks to try and do so whereas the rest of the family are tending towards the serious "let's keep this thing under control" approach and it's brilliant that something that's just a simple "game" can provoke such strong and contracdictory feelings in people.

Not surprised to see the Quarantine Specialist high in the rankings; the ability to pseudo-treat any city on the map every turn is amazingly useful for preventing outbreaks.

Bit surprised at how many people used the Immunologist, though--I figured that a Soldier re-using an Aerosol Unit would be similarly good at immunizations and a lot more versatile, yet the Immunologist was used by twice as many teams in the late game (based on current poll results).

I'm pretty sure a lot of people (myself included) lost the Soldier... I would have used soldier for the endgame if he was available and so I used the Immunologist instead.

Die Frage von TheCze bezieht sich darauf, dass eine Aufgabenkarte "nach Ende des Spiels" zerrissen werden soll - dies ist identisch mit "am Ende der Partie", wie es auf anderen Karten heißt.

So, today we continued our quest to save the planet, we start to fear that the faded could start to overwhelm everything.

In May the first setup sounded not too bad.. okay, some more come into play but nothing that should devastete us.. man were we wrong..

What happend? We had a nice setup with only 2 CoDa cities, one with 1, the other with 2 faded on it. But black was quite crowded and also some yellow corners were filled.

We decided to change the team. Since for blue and yellow only 4 cards are needed we decided to exchange the medic with the scientist so we could get the first two cures with only 3 cards, so basicaly first turn. We kept the quarantine expert to control the faded from a distance and start building up military bases.

After the second epedemic some tough decisions had to be made. Three cities fith faded adjacent to each other were about to blow with the next card and in that case SanFran also would get faded. The epedemic led to an outbreak in SanFrancisco so there were 3 cubes. In addition Algier hat three cubes and was in the mix for getting the fourth one soon.

We decided to secure SanFran from the faded, so the Quarantine Expert, who had SanFran as a card went there, build a military base and put on road blocks between sanFran and the other adjacent cities.

Then the scientist had the tough decision: Go to San Fran and reduce the number of cubes there or save the Quarantine Specialist from an outburst in SanFran if the third epedemic was coming or try to keep algier save. We decided to go for Algier and then the ultimate desaster happend:

Epedemic, outburst in CHICAGO, directly adjacent to SanFran.. so a dircet outburst in Chicago triggering SanFranCisco..
Then of course Chicago and SanFrancisco were triggered again by the cards so in total we got 10 Outbursts with 3 Wounds on the Quarantine Specialist in one epedemic.

Devasted we discussed what to do for the next month and how to handle the loss of Samantha. We came to the conclusion that it is time to include the military more into our plans and that we have to build up an infra structure for future games. Since we protected SanFran in this game we decided to keep the road blocks between SanFran and the CoDA cities and give the scientist the ability to put on adjacent Quarantines from Military Buildings.

In the second try of May we introduced Travor, the guy who puts up constructions to build up the infrastructure as a rival to our scientist.

To make the story short: We had bad luck when drawing cards, we got black quite quick but blue and yellow took forever (inspite of having a scientist who needs only 3 cards.. In the end we waited for 4 turns for the last yellow card and only tried to contain what was possible but the worst happend, a chain reaction in CoDA ending the game just one turn before the next yellow card.. At least everything was contained within the red zone but another lost.

This time we took the Veteran Upgrade for our scientist and a permanent military base in Shanghai. Hopefully we get some time to recover in June but I doubt it...

Hi,

at the end of Jan, we open box 4 where there are roadblock marquer and rule sticker I about roadblocked city. We just finish february and we see nothing related to blocking roads.

Did we miss something out or roadblocks just appear next month?

thanks

I have played through February and I don't know anything about roadblocks. You may want to make sure you opened the correct panels/boxes. Until then, put a spoiler tag on the thread or change the title please.

Thanks.

Why did you open box #4? What instructed you to do that?

as I read your replies, i think that it's very likely that I opened the wrong box. I can't remember what made me open box 4, what i did was follow the feb mission briefing, so I opened boxes:

9: sticker over cOda 403
G: open package 1 + rule about Quarantine
A: rules about relationships
1: relations
6: relations

oops, I know that i opened one more box. shame on me. stupido.

thanks for your answers.

Not having the soldier for that last search HURT. We were a finely tuned machine through the middle game, with the medic keeping the diseases under control, the quarantine specialist keeping coda under control, the soldier crushing the searches, and the dispatcher providing support to all three (notice that all three other characters had special abilities based on where they are/move to)

In the end game, after that rat bastard soldier turned traitor, we switched up to use the immunologist instead, and quickly replaced the QS with... I don't even remember what..

Note we completed EVERY search the game it arrived.
