Hi everyone,

I'm toying with the idea of opening up our Risk Legacy campaign to 8 players. We're a big game group, but it can sometimes be difficult to align schedules so we frequently find that only 4-5 of us will show up at a time.

This means getting a 5 man roster to consistently meet for a game is quite a tall task, there's always someone who's not available and that keeps moving the game to the back burner.

So my question is, will 8 players rotating in and out work? Essentially there will be games where there will be "dead" cities since no one can gain a benefit from them, when the player who founded them is unavailable. Or.. should I just stick it out with 5 players and find a schedule that works consistently? Thanks.

As much as you can, no spoilers please! Haha.

I'm not sure.

With 8 players in the campaign, on average each one is only going to get to play in 9 games - that's damn near skipping every other game.

Mechanically, I'm sure it would work, as the rules don't particularly care who is rolling the dice for a particular faction - but I think it would trample all over the "feel" of the game.

There are 6 "proper" packet on offer. The math therefore says that any one of the 8 players is going to miss seeing 2, possibly 3 of those packers being opened. Likewise, they'll miss placing a significant proportion of scars, cities, and other stickers on the board, so a huge amount of the fun will be lost.

And finally, unless you intend to roster who plays when, then anyone who can turn up more than the others is going to have a big advantage. Someone who turns up to play (say) 11 games is going to have a much greater chance of winning than the guy who can only make it 6 or 7 times - not just because you can only win if you play, but because he will have a much greater ability to scar the board in his favour.

So to be honest, I wouldn't do it. 6 players rotating, I think could just about work, but not more.
