Because maybe I want to play the game again and make different choices. Maybe in 10 years I'm playing it with a new group and we want to have our own version. Making choices permanent just for the sake of permanency feels like a gimmick.
Would you want to play a video game, say a role-playing game, that somehow permanently saved every choice you made, never to let you play the game differently in the future? What about an online shooter with truly permanent death. As in, if you die your account is deactivated and you're permanently banned from ever playing again.
