For those that play Memoir, here is a cool story.
My neighbour came over last night to try Memoir.
Played Vetko Village from the Bonus scenarios as the first scenario.
Winter war Russians versus Germans/Finnish . 1 unit type(skitroops) and 4 terrain types and only 1 special rule. I took the Russians as they had Command rules.
That was a way to ease my neighbour into the game, and figured an easy scenario was the way to go.
Played it twice as the Russians in 40 minutes as it is a brutal and bloody fight. Took the first 5-1 and lost the next 4-5. Next thing would normally be to let play a slightly more complex scenario, but NOOOO.
Showed him all the Memoir stuff I have and upon unfolding Memoir '44: Sword of Stalingrad he requested to play the RUssians in Sword of Stalingrad. A Easern front overlord scenario 1on1 with Command Rules as his 3 scenario.
I explained to him he was upping complexity a bit faster than I normally see, but he was good to go.
A fuun few hours later I had it 17-11 as the Germans, but he was thrilled.
Good times. and he took home the rulebook for No Retreat! The Russian Front as an alternative, but I see many more Memoir playings in 2013. Operation Barbarossa is a distinct possibility as he likes the East front.

Nice neighbour, may you fight the Great War for years to come...
