I devised a two part solution. I used post-its in lieu of stickers on the boards, cards and character sheets. I also created a google spreadsheet to help keep track of rules, upgrades, scars, etc. The spreadsheet is a lifesaver - filters are really helpful as I can sort/view by month, upgrade, action, rule, box/dossier, etc. or search for keyword. Let me know if you would like it.

The post-its were not that big a deal to make. It was a little cumbersome to create and keep up the spreadsheet, but in some ways it helped me to keep track of changes better than stickers on paper would have. For example, I had a searchable and filterable document. For those playing for the first time, you can set the filter by month to avoid spoilers.
