what I like about this game is how it makes you feel right onto the ship guiding your province.in your case, you have seen a great possibility to become famous and gain glory, you've used that in a good way and gained that glory.
that makes the province you've attacked prepared next time they see your ships (gaining dice) but it doesn't make them any better in attacking you or others (not gaining dice).
also I know that everything I am doing will affect the remaining 10+ games, so you should be always aware of the bonus you're gaining but the enmity you're leaving behind. I feel this is a game where the BGG forum is a great help with rules, but shouldn't be used for questions such as "is this move correct or will it screw me in 5 games?"
you know what you're doing now, but cannot see the future....and that's what makes this game great!
