Yes, you're overreacting.

Legacy explicitly encourages behavior that doesn't map to standard "win this game" paradigms because of the persistent changes (which ignores whether people who get fussy over those standard paradigms are justified in the first place). Thus, "behave 'abnormally' to make sure Player X loses" and "behave 'abnormally' to make sure the player in Continent Y loses" are perfectly reasonable. "I want to open the hidden stuff" is similarly standard. Further, unconventional strategies should be encouraged in any game, and "throw everything at the other guy's starting spot" is only that, not a 'non-strategy'. I've done that myself, when I felt the good continents (which, on an unmarked board, don't include Europe or Asia to me) were already spoken for, or when I thought it prompted a reasonable chance to win, or even if I thought it might shake the status quo. And I'm leading on those boards, so this isn't something that can be dismissed as trying to spoil the game.

So yeah, you spent the money, and you can choose to take your board and go home. But don't try pinning the bad sportsmanship on anybody else.
