This describes the fundamental problem I have with this game. I seem to be the only person in my group who is playing to win. Everyone else is interested only in setting up the conditions to open the next envelope and openly conspire to set up a particular player's victory to that end."Hey, check it out, if we let Bob win a second game we get to open another envelope! Sweet, let's do that!"
"Oh look, if we eliminate Sally from the game, we get to open another envelope! You don't mind, do you Sally? We didn't think so..."
Meanwhile I am trying not to swallow my tongue. Seriously, what is the point of playing a strategy game if you aren't playing to win? Mercifully, games tend to finish in less than an hour.
When I heard about Risk Legacy I thought it sounded cool. Instead it's turning into my gaming nightmare as nothing I do in-game has any bearing on the outcome. Seriously, if 3/4 of the group have decided to support one player's victory or demise just to open the next package of cards, is there any point in playing? Is it possible that I'm the one with the problem?
