I played the 2nd half of season 1 solo after my wife dropped out mid-year (she loved the story but couldn't handle the stress of actions affecting future games). I played managing 4 characters each game and loved it.I just finished the prologue of season 2 and can say it doesn't spoil season 1, and it was interesting enough and different enough from regular Pandemic to be worth playing a few times either alone or with a group. It probably isn't worth the price tag of the full game just for the prologue, though. I do think if you have the opportunity and don't mind playing 2-4 characters, you should totally play season 1 solo first and then move on to season 2 to get the full experience.
