Overall State
Honestly (and if you follow me on Twitter you know already), this has been a rough couple of months for me in terms of gaming. There has been too much work, too many things going on at home, too few people to game with due to babies and work trips, all of which has left me pining for more. More games, more experiences, more something. And it's been tough to find the time or energy to do so. We'll see how things progress from here. There are changes afoot!

Standout Games

As you can see, lots of solo gaming. I am continuing through my campaign of Arkham Horror: The Card Game – The Dunwich Legacy with Jenny and Zoey. Not doing so hot right now, but that's ok. I'll live. Well, maybe. I have the last three scenarios to get through before I'm caught up enough to play Arkham Horror: The Card Game – The Path to Carcosa. Should get interesting really soon.

Spirit Island is still a joy to play. Taught it two-player to my wife and she took to it and did incredibly well burning up colonists. Proud of her. Played a 4-player game with the Branch & Claw expansion. Really fun, though I feel the events detract from the game some. Not sure I ever care to play it more than 3 players, but it was a fun moment. It was also nice as Donny and I had the opportunity to interview the designer, R. Eric Reuss, about his design decisions with Spirit Island.

Got in some Alban Viard games of Card City XL ad finally Tramways. After my initial hesitancy with Tramways, I found it delightful. Eventually it would be nice to actually play it with people, but you know. C'est la vie. I will say, Alban, let me edit your rulebooks man. C'mon. Seriously.

Enemy Coast Ahead: The Doolittle Raid is such a marvelous step forward in solitaire game design. It's all about planning and logistics, flying and raiding; what a fun title to play! I was also fortunate to interview Jerry White, the designer, about the game. It should be coming out soon via LPC.

Rulebook Work
Not much in terms of rulebooks this past month. I worked on a kickstarter page for a company. I am excited to get my copies of Bitskrieg and Charlemagne, Master of Europe in from Hollandspiele rulebook work. Also, should be receiving Favelas from Wizids and John Company from Sierra Madre soon. What a pleasure it was working with both Chris and Cole (respectively) on Favelas and JoCo. Exceptionally nice people who make exceptionally fun games. There are some fun things ahead though. I can feel it!

Up & Coming
In a week and a half is BGG.CON. Thank goodness. This will instantaneously rectify the situation of no gaming these last two months. Wednesday is a bit of a media day, talking to people, picking up new games, etc... Thursday is my anniversary, which means I won't be around at all. Fortunately, I'm local, which makes things easier. Friday is the 4th Annual Craft Coffee Exchange, followed by Winsome Games day with some of the best people. I'm ridiculously excited for this one.

It will be nice to see all of the people who I interact with online, give them hugs, drink coffee, and laugh about how our lives are all spiraling out of control. Very grateful to be able to spend time in that community.

Readings
I finished my re-read of Brandon Sanderson's Words of Radiance in anticipation of Oathbringer, the third in the series, being released awfully close to BGG.CON.

I also read The Fisherman by John Langan, a thriller horror novel nestled nicely in the long folklore tales we tell each other when we get back from a day of fishing. While the writing narrative wasn't exactly the greatest, the story told, the imagination involved, was top notch. I'm looking forward to checking out more by him.

I am currently reading Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett. This is Discworld book #8, which I use as a palate cleanser between larger novels. It's fun, funny, and filled with all the quirkiness Pratchett brings.

Recent Musical Leanings
From my heavy mood, The Irrepassable Gate by Ash Borer has been a recent addition. I'm finding the drone of it comforting, but not yet necessarily good. We'll see what happens after more plays.

Spontaneous Symbols by Brooklyn Rider has been a great rulebook editing album. This classical group plays funky, staccato pieces that equally swing and jar you as you move through them.

Ambient, drone, post-rock has been my think for a while, and one of my favorites just released their newest: Luciferian Towers by Godspeed! You Black Emperor. Holy bananas! This album is stellar. Might, quite possibly be my album of the year. Unsure yet, but the slightly stripped down and shorter implementations of their songs are reminding me a bit more of Pelican and Mogwai, but still leaving the grandiose nature of what GYBE is.

Woodstock by Portugal, the Man was the surprise hit for me. Catchy, pop, funky tracks that remind me of latter Mars Volta mixed with Passion Pit, this offering makes me dance and sing and groove all day long. Check out Feel It Still right here:
