no, they don'teverything that turns out negative from the house does not effect the traitor
the sole exception is: the traitor can choose if an event effects him. If he chooses so, and the effect is negative, then the effect takes still place.
In this case, he can simply choose teh drip/smoke not to effect him.
(I'm referring to the first edition rules here, but I don't think that that has been changed.)
