Me
Genevieve
Nathanial
Ryan
Sam
All of us decided to get together starting early on Saturday for a day of gaming at Cafe Mox. Never having been there before, all of us were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the location. The food was sub-par, note to self to not order the steak nachos again. Since we got there early (11), there was no problem getting a good sized booth, but that may become and issue if showing up later. Street parking is available in the immediate area so no real need to take the bus again.
Games
Tokaido
Very simple game, but very fun. Everyone seemed to get into it. Ryan won with a metric ass-load of souvenirs. Quick and simple. Would definitely play again.
Cosmic Encounter
This game was a slow build up of anticipation where Ryan got off to an early lead with the Masochists. Luckily, there were plenty of 'everyone gets their ships back from the Void' cards floating around that this road to victory for him was never very profitable. He had to switch winning conditions too late. The game ended when Nathaniel and I won a cooperative victory against everyone else. Since I was playing the pacifists and he had to attack me, we agreed to split the win with negotiate rather than him not winning. Wasn't seemingly received as well as I would have hoped. Genevieve lost interest in the outcome pretty early (and almost won, coincidentally).
Fiasco - OWNED
Genevieve's favorite game of the night. Game was received better than I had initially anticipated with nobody else having the reference points for the type of story-line that should evolve. Need to get some dice specifically for this game because the "dots are good events, numbers are bad" is a little more confusing than "white good, red bad". Nathaniel definitely thinks his wife would like this game, and I tend to agree. Keep this one in mind for whenever she returns from school in the fall.
Smash Up!
(Nathanial was not there for this one)
We decided to try and play a quick game while Nathaniel headed back to his apartment to take care of his dog. Genevieve was the magic plants, Sam was the Gaelic ninjas, Ryan was the ghost pirates, and I was the robot dinosaurs. I took a pretty good lead before we decided to just call it quits because Nathaniel had returned. Think this game shows promise when having the time to play it while knowing the rules. Would definitely play again.
Betrayal at House on the Hill- OWNED
Everyone else's old standby; this was Nathaniel's first game. I ended up being the betrayer but the map was setup in such a way as I was trapped in the basement with no way to get to my objective. Was relatively easy pickings for the adventurers since I had no way to get away temporarily.
Kingsburg
(Nathanial and Genevieve were not playing)
This may not be the right game to play for this sort of itch. Ryan really seemed to get into it, but the game took much longer than I was hoping once the building that allows (+1/-1 sum adviser once per season) was built. Should take this off wishlists. Will probably not play again.
