I have found some pictures of version which used 6 dice (3 red attacking and 3 blue defending) i.e. Pic ID 680063 Italian version and Pic ID 931940 French Version (of the 80ies?).
But I agree, that most versions seem to have 5 dice only.

I remember loosing up to 3 armies in one battle round, so there must have been a 6 dice version in German too.

P.S. And I am still not sure, if this 3 dice defense actually favours the defender or rather the attacker. A Math nerd might help...;)
