Well, Risk 2210 has a much wider variety of strategic options than vanilla.

You have Commanders, each of which has a special attribute.in combat.
(Diplomat, Land, Naval, Nuclear, Space, and (if you added expansion 3) Tech)

To go with commanders you have decks of command cards. The various decks have a variety of things in them. Nuclear focuses on killing enemies outside battle. The Diplomat focuses on protecting you from attack. Land, Naval, and Space focus on combat in their respective areas. Tech is interesting in that it has a variety of things that give you bonuses, but doesn't tightly specialize.

Another fun thing is that you have water territories, and the moon to fight over as well, those add an interesting wrinkle to combat.

The big thing? NO TURNING IN CARDS FOR TROOPS! Some command cards will give you extra troops, but the mechanic from vanilla where people turn in cards for increasingly ridiculous numbers of troops is gone. :D
