Creating a Legacy

by B. Nahkalaka

*Spoilers*

Many have done it. Many have attempted. Many have tried, and achieved something else than entirely planned. Legacies are created and inherently spur consequences for the future. We see it all the time; they have shaped our world and who we are today. Nothing taught me that more than my World History class this year. Creating a Legacy is something that I think we all want to do. To make a name for ourselves. To accomplish something. But what point is there in doing so if there is no reward or consequence? Why should you strive to accomplish such feats of greatness if they're forgotten? This is essentially what created this wonderful game of Risk: Legacy.

Opening the box, paging through the rules, and sifting through the content is all standard procedure with this game. But all of it inherently has a tremendously different feel. The sticker on the box saying "What's been done can never be undone" couldn't have put it better. All of this just gave off a sense of awe in my mind. It was something brand new; a novelty. But that wasn't what stood out. It was the creation. Beginning, middle. End? Life, death, change, struggle. Creation was what drew me in. It's what we want, right? To create a Legacy?

And that's just what we did.

And the Legacy keeps going. It doesn't end. What's in store for the future? I don't know. Does anyone? Of course not. That's what there is to look forward to with creating a Legacy. With life. That's what makes this game special. That's why every time I look at this game, I laugh and give it a loving pat. It helped us create something. Let it do the same for you...

Make it yours.
