Can anyone confirm that this is spoiler free? Thanks.

Our Scientist was given the first to move, and going CW around the table we had our Generalist, our Researcher, and lastly Johnson, the hero of this story, our Medic.

After some initial confusion about the Researcher's ability, we felt like we were off to a great start in setting up for curing (and eradicating!) the black disease on turn 5 (Scientist's second turn).

We had initial infections of 3 cubes each in San Francisco and Los Angeles, and some smaller infection in Lima.
On turn 4, Johnson went straight away to settle the chaos in San Francisco, then ended his turn in LA in prep for his next turn. Johnson would never get that next turn.

Our first epidemic card struck, and I don't remember what city was pulled from the bottom of the infection deck, but in the infection step we turned over LA, giving Johnson his first scar.

Turn 5. The scientist grabbed the Researcher's 2 black cards and cured/eradicated black while at CDC HQ.
Turn 6. The generalist made great progress in fighting the yellow disease in central and South Africa.

And then the 2nd epidemic card hit. We pulled Mexico City from the bottom of the deck. Since it had just been given a cube due to LA's outbreak, it suffered a massive outbreak of yellow, and in turn, it triggered a 2nd outbreak in LA. Johnson suffered a second scar.

With only a few turns between the Epidemic cards, we had only 5 cards to put on top of the infection deck, two of which were yellow. We had just a 60% chance to make it through this next turn. And we pulled LA again. Johnson was lost. We had lost. In just 6 turns, we had lost our medic and lost our first round of PL. The CDC director ordered us all back to HQ for a regroup.

So there it was. If only Johnson had waited and grabbed a flight the next day, he would still be with us. If only he had gone to LA first, instead of efficiently starting at SF and moving South.. he would still be with us. If only we had enough wisdom to respect the dangers of 3-cube cities adjacent to one another.. alas.

We are devastated. We are hooked. This is awesome. :D

I believe that the one of the medic's abilities is that you cannot add more cubes to that city while he is in there. Thus there will be no outbreaks and the medic will not get scars and thus won't die. So you shouldn't have had a couple of outbreaks and shouldn't have had him die.
