The single biggest mistake players familiar with Pandemic make with Pandemic Legacy is to stop reading Legacy cards too early - when you come across a STOP card, read the exposed surface of it - it tells you when to start drawing again.
If you're not familiar with Pandemic, then play some non-Legacy games first (don't touch the Legacy Deck, don't write on anything, and don't put stickers on anything) - play with 4 funding and an objective of "Cure all 4 diseases", but otherwise follow the rules for setup (skipping step 1) and play from the Pandemic Legacy rulebook (which are slightly different from the vanilla Pandemic rulebook even when you ignore the Legacy aspects)
You want to get your initial learning curve out of the way before you start suffering long-term consequences from it.
