That's not in the rules, which makes me suspect it's not true. Especially given the ruling about Curing in order to get below hand limit. On the other hand, I've never seen the question asked before. Do you have an authoritative reference?

There's also a start-of-May spoiler:

Another corner case I'd not considered before, with start-of-February spoiler:
[o]I assume, but have never seen it stated, that if you draw two cards when you already had seven in hand, and therefore must discard two, if your Rival discards two cards to take the first one you discard, you may then immediately discard two cards to take one of the cards your Rival discarded. If you do this, you now only have six cards in hand so don't need to discard another.[/o]
