Thread: Heroscape Master Set: Rise of the Valkyrie:: General:: A game inspired by Heroscape.

by bournizzle

Hey everyone, I wanted to swing in here and let everyone know about a project that me and a buddy of mine have started working on. I've been playing board games for about 5 years now (Heroscape for 3). I got into Heroscape a little late in life (sadly just about the time it was starting to go extinct) and I've had a lot of fun making my own characters and keeping up with all the customs in these forums. My buddy has been wanting to develop a video game for some time now and we have decided to collaborate on a project together.

The Idea: To develop a multi-player board game specifically for networked and/or online play.

Obviously this isn't a completely original idea. Video game and board games are somewhat related. There are many different board and card games that have been developed into apps, and a number of video games that have been adapted into board games. We have decided to do something a little different. We want to release a board game virtually and allow people to play test and get a feel for the game as we continue to develop it.

The reason I wanted to post in the Heroscape forum is because a lot of different aspects of this first project were inspired by Heroscape. This first game is going to be hex based game with a 3D map and map builder. We are creating a map builder where players will be able to go in and create a custom map and then load it into the game and play it. The program is going to remain opensource so that people can continue to build and add characters, terrain types, and objects into the game if they wish. We are actually trying to make the game as accessible as we possibly can so that players can customize to their liking.

We've started a podcast and a website for this project. We are going to document our journey (fail or success) with weekly updates on our website. If it sounds like something you would be interested in following then please check it out and leave us some feedback. We're are pretty stoked about actually trying something like this so stop by and take a look if you get a chance.
