Still, we got 729. Outbreaks got us the first game in December, but we won the 2nd. We were worried about not having enough cards to complete the search.
In the end, my hubby and I loved the game & are looking forward to season 2.

My memory is fuzzy but I think the base is only added once per game, not every time.
